Find the one you like but can't afford then turn into a stalker and sit at the shop for a week watching delivery trucks to work out where they are made. We were able to go direct to manufacturer and get all the ensembles for this house for $1000-1500 each for really good ones.

I have a Koala mattress for myself and my Airbnb guests. It regularly gets compliments. :)

They offer a 120-night free trial. One of my sons didn't like his. o_OThey came and picked it up again and gave a full refund.

I'm not bothered in the slightest. I'm happy for the market to determine where it's most efficient to manufacture what. (Though I would be much happier if carbon cost, and other invisible costs, were to be priced in.)

The article said they've given up their Made in Australia registration, so I presume so.

I don't know about "the norm". Older houses often don't have bedrooms designed to take the larger king size. I think they would be considered the norm in high end houses.

Personally, we don't like king size beds. When we have slept in hotels, we could park a small car in the bed with us. We prefer queen size. I think it comes down to personal preference, and bedroom size.

    ok

horses for courses, we always ask for king size beds for hotels, costs more but what we like.

The older homes have much larger bedrooms than new homes.
    New homes are shocking

We tried the Koala one and the Ecosa one, both got sent back. I LOVED the Koala one, so comfy, kept you cool, felt quite firm even though it was soft (weird, I know), but those foam ones are just far too soft for me.

I have 3 compressed discs in my lower back, after a few weeks on the Koala mattress I went from waking with a slight back ache to being in agony all day, I literally couldn't walk, it took 6+ months of being back on a very firm sprung mattress before my back came good again.

Apparently Aldi are having their "mattress in a box" on again next week. For about $300 they feel just like $1000+ mattresses. We've been using one for the past couple of years, it's going strong and it's just as comfy as our previous mattress, I really couldn't tell the difference.

Mattresses are such a personal choice and one that you have to live with for 10 years. Agree with you that it can be hard to pick one just by lying around in the store for half hour. I’ve done this with pillows and when I have brought them home, they still hurt, even after spending a fair bit.
As a suggestion, maybe worthwhile staying at some 5 star hotels where they have the mattress and pillows listed so you can buy one that you liked?
I’m lucky that I was able to travel a fair bit for work (pre Covid) so I was able to do this. Got my pillows from the Marriot (US) after having the best week of sleep, but their store had the mattress and sheets also listed for purchase.
