Up for a new king and two queens when we move into our new house build later this year and pondering what beds to buy ... as luscious as they are, budget doesn't stretch to a Tempur ... and have had Sealy in the past but not impressed.

I don't want to get taken in by flashy ads, and it's near impossible to know how a bed will perform (for sleep) even with a half hour lie on in the store.

As we're getting older, and me being an hourglass shape, need good support without being saggy or firm

    Recommendations?

Have you considered a car bed? I don't understand why these are only for kids. Kids can't even drive, legally. Makes no sense. Think about how impressed guests will be.

I think Lizzie might have been after helpful comments ;-)

    Unfortunately, I don't have any.

Me neither. I'm happily single with all the bed RE to myself. I have the weirdest config of pillows. But immediately what popped to mind was a remote control bed. You know the one you can sit up in. Ha ha. Sorry Lizzie I can't grown up today. A hospital style bed is my dream bed

I like the Aldi mattress. Seriously! Inexpensive and really good.

If you have a frame that cool, does it really matter what you're sleeping on?

@jaybean Ha, you must be so young. Us oldies want to treat our spines and necks with the utmost care.

Last year we bought a Makin' Mattress, medium. It is divine - the firm was too hard and the soft was way too soft and squishy. But with mattresses, I would never buy from a catalogue or online. I would have to at least try it in the shop.

If i'm in the market for a new mattress, i'd go for Koala or Sleeping Duck.

Not so sure about the second one.

If I had a duck mattress, I'd end up feeling down.

I bought one of those mattresses in a box, but it is too soft. It is on a spare bed so doesn't matter to us.

We have an Ikea mattress on our own bed. I love that you can lie around at Ikea for a while and see what you like without sales people hovering around.

I was think these guys ... but did wonder if the advertising extolling the virtues was hype.

I'm not a fan of a fixed pillow top, and have cut them off in the past, as they tend to sag rapidly in contrast to the mattress ... replaced them with eggshell foam and removable mates toppers

The mattress and the separate topper are very heavy. It takes both of us to turn them, you turn one at a time, so they should last well. The topper is like a huge bubble-wrap, each cell supports whatever body part is on it. When I lie down, the small of my back is equally supported because my broader and heavier parts sink lower, if that makes sense. (I admit I bought the hype)

Our camper mattress (clark rubber) is completely different - and far cheaper - I hate it. Mark wanted the "firm" which does not give at all. I might as well be lying on a board, there is nothing under my neck or lower back.

So - despite the "hype" - you've found it really good? I really need support in the small of my back, and because of my body shape I tend to end up with a curving spine on a cheaper bed

We had a gel mattress topper on a bed once - sheesh didn't the removalists hate that as weighed a ton - and wasn't that great despite the hype at the time

Hi @Lizzie, well so far so good. We bought it in August last year and so far I still love it. $2500, it better be good. There are more exxy ones .That works out to $250 per year for ten years which is fine by me for value. As I said yesterday there is no way I would dare buy one without trying it in the shop first.
To me it is too much hassle to return something if you dont like it.
