I wonder how empty somone's life must be that they spend hours trolling property investors on a property investment forum. I can think of 2. First one joined the forum for the sole purpose of "educating" property investors about how "evil" property investing is, blaming them for the "housing affordability crisis" and accusing them of perpetuating poverty and human misery. It's inexplicable really. The other has created no threads, has posted about 99% negative posts about property investing, has picked many fights with forum members and has had a bunch of posts deleted. I don't really understand why these people join a property investment forum and devote hours of their life to posting about how bad property investing is.

And you don't qualify. You post about property investing so you're automatically disqualified. :p

I sometimes wonder though; I haven't bought an IP since 2005....hardly "in the game" compared to many others here.

But; bought a block of land that year, and have since done two renos (PPOR in 2009 and one on an IP in 2013), plus built another PPoR after selling the reno'ed one, and sold the last PPoR in Oct 2015, and have since bought another future PPoR sight just last month.

Also; did the workshop business purchase in 2009 (dumb move) instead of buying another IP or two with the available equity...

    Am I still.... "in"? :oops::D

You have invested in property. You were always "in". It's the ones that never have invested in property (and don't want others to invest in property) that seem to add no value to the forum.

It would be like being anti car and joining a car owners forum to "educate" the formites about how "evil" car ownership is. I'm sure that would go down really well.

@Perthguy you know what is rarely ever mentioned by 'the others'? The inevitable P word.

    The PENSION.

They have no plan for you to have a fighting chance against a meagre standard of living on the pension at the end of 50 years working your ass off. Absolutely no plan for you.

At least with investment, you have some chance. Some hope that you wont need to rely on your kids to pay for your bills or substitude your pension just so you can make ends meet, or pay for your rent. You have a chance to avoid a situation where your pension wont cover your living needs (and wants) . And if your still renting? That will only amplify the situation more.

Property investment, any investment really gives you that chance, that hope that come 70 years or whatever the number is for you, you wont end up in that awful situation. I have seen it again recently...an elderly mum took $100 from her son just to help with bills. The son was more than happy to help his mum...but you could see her heart breaking.... it really touched me.. the whole situation...

I know for me, I rather a fighting chance by investing than to sit paralysed...waiting for the day when i am truely paralysed with no options and hope left.

This forum has a different reputation than the whirlpools etc. By reading a random number of posts you will see that the focus of this forum is more specialised and serious than the whirlpools and that in turn attracts more specific type of posters that you wont find readilly in other forums.
Just read some posts , except my posts and @datto posts and you will see what i mean :)

    Million $$ statement !! however i can't pay you for that ;)
Some people only learn by experience and as such they'll have to wait until they stop working at an old age to understand PENSION and THE PERKS OF RETIRING (OR in less offensive terms to some - FINANCIALLY FREE).

Apart from being informative, supportive and fun.

This forum is full of investors from a wide range of spectrum. Some successful investors being very inspirational provides motivational spirit, newbie wanting to start the investing journey allows me to look back and being grateful of my own achievement, and some investors who made a downturn on the investment serve as reminder before making a decision.

I have been accumulating quite a great value of property before discovering this forum, I must say that I could have been in a much better financial position having to discover this forum earlier.

Oh...and the occasional disagreements which I sometimes find them humorous, makes me want to read more. Don't delete those posts please.

And this is from your personal experience ?

I'm happy with our recent sales . 6 year hold for 90 % increase in value , using 100% other people's money . Not bad in my book . Recent purchases moving up gradually . Able to buy cash flow positive properties in regional city that hasn't moved for several years.

Sounds much the same as it always has .

Quoting a Perth REA as an example of a reason not to currently invest in property shows a degree of nievity in the current market ...

I have better things to do with my time than enter debates when I know I'm not going to change someone's opinion especially they're just being a total dick head , / deliberately disrespectful or antagonising people / trolling etc

Personally , I have problems of reading something that makes no sense , shows a degree of ignorance or bias and not responding . Maybe that's my problem , but my solution is to put people on ignore .

I will usually end up reading " ignored users" if it's on a post that I'm involved in , but I rarely respond .

There are enough people on the forum that I disagree with ( but respect ) , who I'm prepared to debate , so I can ignore the trolls and idiots out there .

I don't know why people don't find this terrifying enough to warrant action. They just don't. Too big picture, unfathomable, in the future, wont happen to me, etc.

My biggest motivation is to be in a position to support my mum - she has 5 years at best, perhaps less than 12 months before she will need the help. This puts a time pressure on me that I wouldn't otherwise have. I need to help her, as without her help I wouldn't be here. Very corny, but a lot of her (financial) investment was in me.
