But those lines at the 'link are always so long and unmotivating!

Short of sounding like the stereotypical crazy cat women we are - partner and I are heavily motivated by our rescue animals. Going home to them reminds me why we do the work we do, our future plans for a bigger place for more rescues, and makes it all worthwhile.

My job is also kinda fun some days :).

A full days pay for half a days work ;)
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's still faint, but I can see it. That's the other motivation, putting the plan into action, seeing results, knowing it's not for nothing.

I'm motivated by my family more than anything else. If I did not have children I may have been happy to live in a one bedroom apartment my whole life, work as a scientist and come home and watch TV or read scientific journals. I want to leave my kids with an empire. Science does not pay enough, real estate does.

Having grown up in a family where money was either there or not, (rollercoaster) I refuse to build my family around the same shaky foundations.
I also can't handle the thought of selling all of the hours of my life. So I am working/investing to avoid that. I will be available to spend time with my family, live overseas, and If I have a bit left for a few nice things, then bonus!
The ingrained love of analysis and investment and healthy dose of ego also helps.... :)

Wholeheartedly agree to this. Although money doesn't guarantee happiness, not having any restricts you a lot. Looking at my parents achievements, where they started with nothing and only little education (grade 2 and high school). I feel I will be disappointing them if I cannot leave anything for my kids, when they have managed to give me and my siblings (5 of us) a property each.

Its the location I like, not the house that much. Knock down and build to suit ;)

I guess if you have the dough to buy that property you undoubtedly have the dough to bulldoze and do it over!

This is more my kind of place (with a significant reno of course...!) Sold Price For 2 Mawhera Ave, SANDY BAY TAS 7005 - 2010700231 (if only I could relocate it out of Tasmania... I'd love a Henry Hunter home in regional NSW...)

Last sale price I have for it is:

    Sale Price: $1,460,000
    Sale Date: 27 Mar 2014

Location is OK...nothing great, but of course it's very subjective to personal taste.

It's the architect not the location I am a fan of ;). Will have to make a replica.
