I know it's an inflammatory topic - but after Trump today siding with Putin in denial of Russian interference in the election ... despite every intelligence agency in the USA producing evidence that they did, and even naming those involved and proving financial and personal links between Trump and Putin ...

If Americans think Trump is unpatriotic, it could be bad news for his presidency

    Trump has:
    - abused and insulted nearly every ally
    - praised Russia and North Korea
    - withdrawn (or promised to withdraw) troops from key world positions
    - attacked NATO
    - disrupted trade between allies
    - withdrawn from agreements between allies
    - attacked the FBI and CIA
    - removed basic rights from millions of Americans
    - incited racism and sexism and made it "acceptable" behavioiur

    Putin would like:
    - discord amongst western allies
    - to be acknowledged and paraded on the world stage
    - western troop withdrawal from key European positions
    - disbanding of NATO
    - disruption of world trade to put Russia in a more powerful negotiating position
    - distrust of the US intelligence service
    - despair amongst the US people
    - discord against minority groups to enhance despair

So - what have the Russian's got on this guy - be it financial or personal?

One theory on Twitter is that the Trump organisation has been neck deep in Russian money for decades.

Then there’s the pee pee tape, as Stephen Colbert refers to it....

Some of his property deals smack of money laundering.

This could be a turning point for the US, he really was a disgrace, basically treason.

I was quite flabbergasted by his comments this morning. How on earth could he believe the word of Putin over his own intelligence community?

There's something much deeper going on that we obviously don't know much about. But I now wholeheartedly believe that Trump is afraid of Putin.

Even his most staunch supporters in the Republican party are shocked at his behaviour today

“There is no question that Russia interfered in our election and continues attempts to undermine democracy here and around the world,” Ryan said. “The president must appreciate that Russia is not our ally.”

“I have said a number of times, I’ll say it again: The Russians are not our friends. And I entirely believe the assessment of our intelligence community,” McConnell said.

Shocking, Trump trying to mend relations with Russia

Trump is a great Disruptor, before him we had people saying not to trust our intel because they got it wrong, i.e Saddam and WMD.

.This goes far beyond mending relations, as many even on the Republican side of the fence are saying. This is rejecting what his own intelligence is saying, and accepting the word of a country which has no love for the US over what most people in the US have agreed is happening. We're not talking collusion here- that's still under investigation, and may or may not have happened- we're talking interference. But Trump, by denying even interference, by inference, removes himself from the accusation of collusion.

.If making friends is the aim, why is he making enemies of Canada, China, Europe, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, ***hole little African countries ...?

... by undermining and lying about every other ally - his own 17 intelligence agencies - foreign intelligence agencies - NATO - trade and peace treaties - excusing Crimea and Syria?

It wasn't the intel agencies that initially got it wrong - it was what those higher up the political chain of command, and Republican leaders of the time, chose to pick out of the reports to support their own agenda:

Here's the full version of the CIA's 2002 intelligence assessment on WMD in Iraq

.....calling the EU a ‘foe’ - trashing all the US allies and for some inexplicable reason not uttering one word of criticism of Russia or standing up to Putin.

Even having said he has no link with Russia, has never done business with Russia, no loan ties with Russia, his own sons have admitted much of their money is "flowing in" from Russia and Trump tried to build a Trump tower in Moscow years ago.

It is scary, watching how this is unfolding. And not enough Republicans will stand up against him.

Relations soured by Russia doing things like casually invading Crimea and murdering people in Britain with nerve agents? Trump is not a "great disruptor" he's just a traitor. A narcissistic, spineless, self-interested, corrupt, would-be autocratic traitor.

Rachel Maddow has an amazing knack of digging deep, and some of the things her researchers have uncovered really explain a lot about how things are unfolding, and why.

Often she is the first to break news.

We don't get to see her, but listen to her daily show via Podcast. She's fantastic.

I feel like they're starting to turn on him though, which is encouraging. The public backlash seems almost overwhelming this time.
