I know he was a controversial figure with some pretty uninformed views but he seems to have been completely obliterated from the forum including all old posts ? what happened, self inflicted ? does some self destruct button exist, or exists to 3rd parties ? just curious.

If I remember correctly same thing happened on SS with Bayview then after few months hiatus came back good as old.

Maybe it was my Adam Goodes comment which he took to heart years ago :p

No, he got banned for abusing other members and breaking the forum rules.

He had plenty of warnings explaining the problem, but he refused to acknowledge that he was doing the wrong thing and eventually the system bans you automatically when you accumulate enough warning points.

People are allowed to express their views - but they are not allowed to abuse other members and they certainly aren't allowed to abuse the mods who are volunteers who give their time to help make this community a better place.

The way i saw it was all the trolls were pushing the buttons to get the reaction,AND, as you know, i expressed this personally via PM to you!! It should have been more than one banning.

His old posts are there - at least those which weren't deleted because they broke the rules

Other people get warnings too - if they haven't been banned it just means they didn't get enough warnings yet. We do give people a chance to do the right thing.

My instructions are clear - if people are trolling, don't respond - report it and let the mods deal with it. Responding and retaliating to troll posts is just as likely to see you get a warning as the person doing the trolling.

Understanding the difference between robust debate and personal attack is something some people seem to struggle with.

At the end of the day, the thing that gets people banned most often is being abusive towards other members.

To succeed as a member of this site, there are only two things that I ask: 1) add value, 2) be nice to people

Sirely Sim doesn't do that ;)

@datto just picks on randoms and sends over a couple of his more presentable tenants. :p

Dammit - they must have sent the wrong goons. I told them to send these ones:

Fair call, i have certainly been guilty of not abiding by the 2nd rule above and youre right, baited or not it's no excuse. Natural immediate instinct in past has been to disagree with 1 or 2 previous warnings but in hindsight nothing youve said to me is unreasonable.

this is one of the better operated and behaved forums ive come across so if i need to pull my head in a bit thats an entirely reasonable condition of being a member.

There was so much stuff in the Trump thread I totally opposed that was written by Bayview, but it was pointless to try to argue it and support another point of view. In the end, it was better for me to just walk away and ignore the thread.

I think you do a good job Sim. Ive had various warnings over time too.. all deserved.

I think there is an element of relational bullying on the site which can be quite subtle and not necessarily noticeable to everyone.

Exactly, too hard basket. When these characters trash a thread like that, I simply ignore it entirely afterwards - which is a bit of a shame as there could be interesting things to debate on, but it isn't worth the hassle.

I've been so busy, I didn't see the Trump thread, nor did I notice Bayview missing.

Old posts are still there. You can search for posts posted by him.

While many didn't agree with his views, that's not the reason he got the ban. It's possible to disagree respectfully. When the line gets crossed into disrespect there's a problem.

There are going to be plenty of people who you will disagree with, sometimes you'll be wrong. It's only the internet.
