Apologies if this has been posted before, but I thought a poll to see the generation each member belongs to may be interesting after that recent post about millennials not happy with boomers around property prices.

According to this source by Pew Research, they define each generation as follows:
Defining generations: Where Millennials end and Generation Z begins
    upload_2022-2-14_12-59-38.png

I will use the years of birth above as the basis for the poll.

As for me, I'm a proud and satisfied member of Generation X, standing by the wayside while watching the Millennials blame the Boomers for their lot, while we silently go about our business.

    Interesting.

So far 70% have said they are Gen X, 30% are Millennials, and no Boomers yet.

I think a lot of these articles use the term millennial, when they are actually talking about gen z.

I also think that there are discontented people in every age group. But that people forget that it's natural that mire wealth (and thus property) be owned by older generations, simply because they have had more time to progress their careers and accumulate their wealth. Our household income is about 5 times what it was just 15 years ago. That's through career progression and investment decisions.

I am a 40 year old millennial. Of course I have more then a 20 year old gen z.
On the other hand know some 70 year olds that have never owned their own house either.

It’s a good point. You and I are not that far apart in age actually. I agree that the media keep using the term Millennial but by golly they’ve already all grown up.

Mind you, Gen Z is still quite young - I doubt there are any Gen Z members on this site?

Hooray!!! U got away with it! I love it!!

BTW I thought we had a heroic generation before boomers, don't undersell them.

    I don't think 1964 is boomer.

Different people use different terminology. For example, Pew Research, which is what I referenced, doesn’t use the term Gen Y at all.

Also, 1964 is borderline I guess. Like rugrat is borderline but on the other end.

Boomer cut off used to be 1959 and I wasn't a boomer. Then they changed the dates (more than once I believe) and with the flick of a pen I've become a boomer.

Yes, I am familiar with that, some intended 60 retirement age, 55 preservation age to be definition of a boomer. More in line with 1959. But since boomerism is more an attitude ..... who knows?

International definitions do include heroic, or wartime references to our oldies. We owe our freedom to that group.

What are the children of today called?

It really varies internationally. Demographer Bernard Salt says the baby boomer generation in Australia is those born between 1946 and 1961.
