I see a firmer commitment from them for metronet, which is fine by me as I'm developing in Morley.

I read the '100 great policies for WA' pdf on one of their sites... doesn't mention much that I can see related to our little game. I understand their desire to cut down negative gearing is a federal, not state decision.

So, anything you've picked up on and don't mind sharing? Any guesses or extrapolations you've come up with?

Given that Labor platform in general promotes welfare and is anti small business, I think WA should embrace for (more) economy woes. Property market buoyancy is then often an extension of that.

They'll just find alternate ways to waste money. Still, will be nice not to have to look at Colin Barnett's mug on the tv.

True, but McGowan whines on like a deputy principal, always stern and complainy. I am not sure he will be able to shake this. I hope so. It's dreadful!

The project I hope most they will deliver is outer harbour. I can't explain why the LibNats doggedly refused to do this. Inexplicable!

MetroNet has potential but has had no thought put into where the lines run. Hopefully it will mature as a policy as the relevant departments have their input.

A great policy is making 20% of public service middle managers redundant. Middle management is a scourge on society!

I predict initial euphoria as the faithful believe they have finally been "saved". Likely to be short lived because there is no money, just a lot of debt. Happy Carps didn't build anything so Barnie had to. Building is expensive and now we are in debt. So if Micky wants to do anything, he will have to borrow.

Until the next mining boom, I am expecting things to be fairly quiet.

Haha, well now that's just a given! And can't agree more about the deflation of the bloated government/middle management. Didn't know that was a policy.

There really wan't much to choose between them imho. The amount of money that's been made in WA from resources but seems like there's nothing to show. Perth is a beautiful city with so much going for it. I feel like much more could have been done while things were good to bring a more diverse economy. No shortage of people wanting to move to Perth from all over the world, and work there.

I feel like Labour will carry on pouring money into bottomless pits instead of somewhere where it can directly improve the economy. We'll see.

Agree with you on middle management.

Anyway, off my soap box now. I hate voting, can't find anyone I rate.

I really love Perth as well and wish only the best for it. There's parts in other cities I like (Darwin is pretty special) but no where else I want to live. I don't want to see everyone who isn't working FIFO live below the poverty line as baristas etc. Here's hoping for some positive change!

True it was grim pickings at the polling booth. From either sides policies there was very little to like. Outer harbour and a leaner public service are good policies. MetroNet has potential. Medi hotels is stupid. Libs had a train line to Morley which is good. Selling Western Power is stupid. Mixed bag. I can't say I enjoyed picking between that lot.

Freo port - I recon do what Barney did with the Key, pre-sell parcels to hotel/ apartment developers etc, use the funds for a new international standard cruise ship terminal (will have train too city/airport) & marina, entertainment center (maybe another casino), upgrade Leach/High street intersection (or alternate route), overpasses at major intersections along leach from the freeway, close off all small right turn access into leach.

Outer port - sell of all the land the state (we) owns between Russell & the speedway to heavy industry/storage, harbor built/operated by private Co, use the funds for road upgrades too/from freeway & paying off debt.

Whilst not their policy, when I see the same power pole get changed 8 times in two years, usually with an average of 8 guys standing around watching them/chatting, it seems to me the supervisors are just trying to keep them busy, meanwhile our costs go up, a private owner wouldn't allow this, nor the subcontractors they use, when needed.

Many say similar to me, my response is always...

I reckon I'd last 5 minutes in parliament before I was facing an assault charge, unfortunately I don't have the temperament for all their childish all talk no action carry-on

Couldn't agree more. This ensures that Labor are a fair way from ever receiving my vote.

Labor is not planning on selling Western Power during this term. But they are planning on selling a lot of government land. At least the land might be put to good use. Not that anyone would be buying land now. The market is dead.

In reality a private company would pick up the monopoly service for an absolute song, scale back down to skeleton staff and neglect maintenance until it's falling apart- then they'd come running to the Government to fix the infrastructure. Privatise the profits and socialise the losses. Meanwhile the Government loses out on billions of dollars of revenue in the long term.
Western Power reports $97 million profit for last financial year

Edit- I'm glad Labor won in WA. Liberals were like 'yeah we blew the mining boom, managed to get the state budget into billions of dollars of debt despite the boom, have the highest unemployment in WA since 2002, want to sell the furniture to the pay the rent, but hey at least we're not Labor...'. Hanson also got exposed as the easily manipulated Liberal puppet that she really is:cool:

It means nothing. I doubt they'll do much better or worse than the Barnett admin. I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not betting on it, I don't see any depth of talent in labor land either.

I seriously doubt they will be much different. Barnett built the stadium that Labor would not commit to and (fingers crossed) Labor will build outer harbour that Barnett would not commit to. Swings and roundabouts.
