QLD What does it mean for an area if government housing is being sold?

Dundas Valley used to have a lot of housing commission but now its relatively well located so existing properties easily sell for over $1mill and there's not so much of a difference between that suburb and surrounds anymore.

It helps that the council (Parramatta) is pro higher density so its attractive for developers to grab the land and put new townhouses etc.

    It's definitely a good idea replacing a 1 house with 2 units.
There has definitely been an emphasis in decentralising HC stock though. I know of several new developments in relatively upmarket suburbs where the local residents have complained to their local councils.

That's on the cards apparently. Look up Claymore renewal. Problem is it needs a name change as well I think.

Big difference to what I said and 'Crestmead being Logan's next suburb to gentrify'
Just to be clear, I never compared Crestmead to the rest of Logan, just that the sale of housing commission will benefit the suburb.

Won't do much. Look at Davoren Park in SA. It used to be called Elizabeth Plains now everyone thinks it's worse than Elizabeth.

Which suburbs? I don't disbelieve you. Interested to know if any developments have been successfully stopped. The Department of Housing (in QLD) has exemptions under the sustainable planning act so some of the planning rules don't apply.

Palm Cove FNQ, it wasn't stopped but the development created public protests from memory.

that's true. Big fuss at the time but went ahead regardless. Now managed by a community housing provider.

Unlike Airds and some other suburbs, this suburb only has a couple of housing commission houses for sale.. It seems like they've been well renovated too and have a good structure.. Unsure why they are selling them.. Wonder if the agent would admit it's department of housing if I asked.
