Business isn't easy, but the rewards are worth it.
What rewards or conditions are you seeking from a business?

    1. Disrupt an industry
    2. Build something I am proud of
    3. Make more money than I could have as an employee

My primary reason was for the money.
Secondary was to have flexible working hours, but that didn't work out very well because it's been continual growth from the start.
Unplanned positive side effects were a huge variety of new skills and confidence gained.

I really wanted the flexibility in when to work. I can choose to take time off whenever I want and couldn't bear doing a 9 to 5 job. It was torture when I had to work at a firm for 2 years as a new lawyer - 7am to 8pm every day.

    13 hour days for 2 years !!!
Is that something all new lawyers have to do?
You'd want to be paid very well for that, or at least the period following.
What does a good lawyer get paid these days and what type of hours do they do?
If long hours, you'd have to be on a half mil ?

My starting salary was $45,000 and no overtime - 6 years ago now.

But the starting salaries of new lawyers is still very low because there is a flood of lawyers on the market and new lawyers cannot do much.

That was my life more than 6 years ago but I thrived on long hours to get more things done (and more files on my desk) and with 2 secretaries and 2 clerks, i was firing non-stop until "freedom" moment hits. :)

Then why would anybody want to be a lawyer?
Tradesmen make make multiple times working less than half the hours.
Tradesmen who run a crew can make much more again.

Because everyone knows lawyers are rich and make huge dollars.

Lawyers are just like many other things

    1. If you are good at what you do you can make alright money
    2. if you are good at what you do and you are good with people you can make good money
    3. if you are good at what you do and good at attracting customers you can make amazing amounts of money.

Family is my number one priority so I would like to work around my family schedule.

I would like to be able to act on my ideas and able to claim credit for it. The majority of the companies (or bosses) I worked for either claims credit for my ideas or ignores it and throws me under the bus when there's a mistake, even when it's not mine. At least I'll be able to take responsibility if my ideas works or not.

I would like to first enjoy what I do and I work hard. Making (lots of) money would be a consequence of things I enjoy doing.
