First item today - "promote" Sessions with no replacement. I'm pretty sure Mueller's ready to act, but this does leave him vulnerable

Sessions has already "resigned", with Matthew Whitaker named as his acting replacement.

Yep - not even 24 hours and Sessions is out ... and Trump has an unhinged hissy fit at a media briefing. Rudd predicted Trump would become more extreme - and I fear he might be right.

Donald Trump to become more 'extreme' on trade if GOP loses Congress, warns Rudd

Interesting how the invading "caravans" has suddenly disappeared from Fox News ... actually ... looking at the Fox page, it's not very friendly towards Trump

I gather the share market is up with the news that the Dems have taken the house and will supply some stability ... that's good

The share market hates uncertainty. Once a decision is reached it usually stabilises.

She really should be removed from that position for falsely accusing someone of something serious like that.

This could also be the start of a cycle that the signals that demand has regained the upper hand ,beyond a temporary bounce --and if the dow breaks away it may well generate the sudden momentum to continue higher as pattern recognition seems to point that way..imho..

Asides from the number of women, LGBTI's, Native American's and religious/ethnic diversity that's been elected to Congress ... I'm excited by the number of scientists (rather than ex-lawyers and career pollies) ... and the House Committee on space, science and technology might actually be chaired by a degree'.d scientist for the first time in 28 years

That appeared to have been a preplanned attack. He had only just started when Trump said something like "here we go".

He subsequently made attacks in two other reporters, April Ryan from the American Urban Radio Network and Abby Phillip of CNN, both of whom are African American women.

Trump is now back pedalling on knowing Matt Whitaker, after the fallout on his appointment as acting AG which many are saying is unconstitutional.

For someone who demands unswerving loyalty from his associates, he’ll drop them like a hot potato when it suits him.

He demands loyalty - but has none himself

So now we have to forget laws and due process, and just declare his people the winners?

If anything untoward really happened then it should be investigated properly by the proper process. If anything is found to be wrong, then the results only then updated to reflect it. But the number of incidents of voter fraud - as distinct from voter suppression - have been miniscule in the US.

If due process were to be followed, it's highly likely that the Republicans would win the governorship and senate place anyway.

I saw a chart a few days ago showing that if the mid-terms had been a "proper" election the Republicans would be out.

Yes - there were certain states where the Dems got twice the votes but only 1/3 of the seats

I think this reply from the Dem Candidate summed the situation up pretty eloquently ... asides from the last line

    Depends on their electoral system.

Recently, Kerryn Phelps won Wentworth with a primary vote of 29.17%, beating Dave Sharma who had a primary vote of 43.12%. (Guardian newspaper).

That's because of preferences, which don't exist in the US. Phelps got 51.2% of votes after distribution of preferences.

True - due to the number of candidates and preferences in Australia - and there were a lot in Wentworth. In the US they usually have only 2-3 candidates

Yes, I am well aware of preferential voting and how it affects outcomes, including this one.

I have no idea of the US system. Unless you understand the system then raw figures can be misleading.
