I have a few on the go at the moment.

The Painted Man I re-read a couple of weeks ago.

Origins - Lives of Modern Cosmologists, Lightman & Brawer. It isn't modern (1990) but I got it from a neat little second-hand bookshopwhen I was in Cooma recently.

The Hippopotamus and The Ode Less Travelled both by Stephen Fry.

The Satan Bug, Alistair Maclean (same Cooma bookshop.) Usual fast paced Maclean book. Disfigured war hero chasing down nasty peoples to save teh world. All in three days. Good for a bed time read then recycle to another store.

Buy me the Sky - Xinran

On how China is dramatically changing internally after the introduction of the one child policy - how that one child is being spoilt, pandered and indulged without the concept of accountability/socialism. How they are entering society hooked on consumerism yet without the ability to undertake basic self care tasks (cooking a meal, washing clothes) ... and their attitude to the rest of the world

    Fascinating read and somewhat scary

That takes me back - used to have every MacLean book until time (and poor binding) put them out to pasture

"The simple path to wealth" by JL Collins

About 1/3 through in 1 sitting. Highly readable on an otherwise dry subject for most

    The Tiger Woods biography (unauthorized).
Fascinating read, talks about his dysfunctional upbringing and warped sense of entitlement. Great golfer but very flawed individual.

Currently reading "Tales from Earthsea", a collection of short stories by Ursula Le Guin set in the "Earthsea" world, after which I will complete the series by reading the 5th novel in the "trilogy" - The Other Wind.

I have had the original Earthsea trilogy on my to-read list ever since I was in school - but I could never bring myself to get started. I think I was still traumatised by reading Le Guin's Hainish books "The Left Hand of Darkness" and "The Dispossessed" as my main material for year 12 English.

Actually, this year is 30 years since I read those books - once I finish the Earthsea series, I may give the Hainish books a go - including revisiting those two I read back then. However, my understanding is that they are all very pessimistic in nature and I'm not sure I want to go there.

Anyway - I have actually really enjoyed the Earthsea series and would recommend them.

I’m reading the biography on Micheal Gudinski, some nights, and the other nights I’m reading Half Assed, a weight loss memoir, really enjoying them both.
I also visited the local library for the first time in months and took some books, we are in danger of losing it! I was really disappointed to see the recent “refurbishment” means the reading nook has been converted to staff workspace :(

The local library can be good, not only for books, but for magazines, DVDs, and audiobooks on CD - for those cars which still have a CD player. An audiobook I find can be great to alleviate the tedium of a long drive.

Going through an Entrepreneur autobiography stage. Just finished reading Elon Musks and now onto Richard Bransons.

Next up Jobs and Bezos and by then I should be totally complacent with not being a billionaire.

Taking a break from Earthsea for a bit and reading the latest "Grey Man" book from Mark Greaney - "Mission Critical", good bit of lightweight action/thriller to help relax the brain at the end of the day.

‘Say Nothing ‘, about The Troubles in Ireland in the seventies.
Very well written and I’m finding it fascinating to read about what went on then - I was a teenager in Scotland and was barley aware of what was happening.
