What are the telltale signs that a house was built as a forever home rather than cheapie investment?

    @scientist's lounge room ;)

    Everyone has one in their home (except for my mum who doesn't have a microwave oven) .

    Quality of a kitchen sink tap. How solid vs how much flex it has :D

    I like this - good point. Other "touch points" that homeowners tend to fix for refinement over value:
    • light switches
    • power points
    • door handles
    • door foam/bumpers (to make them quieter)
    • door hardware in kitchen cabinets / bathroom vanities
    • soft-close drawers

    I've got a wine cellar and an art studio. The guy from Herron Todd White didn't appreciate it though when he was here. He called them a utility room and a washroom.

    I did wonder about the faraday cage, but heck, why not. I'm not going to get a smart meter if I don't have to, and if I'm forced to I'll look into how to protect our bedroom which is too close for my comfort.

    Some will scoff at this, but I don't care. I don't want a smart meter near where I sleep, so I will price up a faraday cage. :D
