What are the telltale signs that a house was built as a forever home rather than cheapie investment?

Ever walked through a home for sale that you are considering as an IP, only to be gobsmacked at some of the quality inclusions ? Your tenants will certainly appreciate a bit of extra luxury, and it could keep the property in demand for years as a rental prospect.

I’ll go first. Expensive Crimsafe security on doors and windows.

Forever home, I can't get enough of it. :)
I have the ownership history of the place since it was built... it was never an IP. The original owners built it themselves from sandstone sourced from the site. It stayed in the original owners family for 86 years.

One interesting thing to note... 11K was spent for 3 skylights.... they open up with a remote control and they will close by themselves if it starts raining....

Some builders may be better these days but old homes were built to last.
    High skirting boards
    inticate door frames
    nice light fittings / chandeliers
    stained glass windows
a garden rather than a yard
    quiet street.

You should see @kierank's home too... it has these lights that go on when you walk down the hallway... it has a huge ass theatre room.... lots of options for lights in the rooms....
Blinds that open or close without touching... etc.... house is bigger than most people's suburban land blocks....
Definitely not built with an IP in mind.

Good to see someone finds the little gems I hide.

(I deleted the references to the moat and razor wire fencing)

A fancy kitchen that costs more than any amount of value it could possibly add to the property

    i.e. general over-capitalisation

Only from 1940's - 1960's. It then dropped to 8' when Ordinance 70 came into force in NSW.

It’s all down to the design. Built to best orientation for summer and winter sun, big rooms and good layout. And on a bigger block of land.

Not simply cramming in as many poky rooms as possible on a tiny block of land to maximise advertising benefits.
