At 18 to go to UNI, away from parents 120kms or so, met spouse to be 1st year at UNI and married year later, 4 years later moved married back to parents for 2.5 years, lived in one room to save for a deposit for our own house. Bought house 3 kms away from parents and moved out for good. Moved from 1st PPOR to 2nd PPOR only 10 years ago.
Spouse was 18 when leaving home too....
BUT, now we have two teenagers at UNI and we feel they never wish to leave home.....?:D

We've decided that Mrs No Mates and I will move out shortly, abandon the kids and leave them to their own devices.

Oh! The OP meant when did we move out of our childhood homes

    Fantastic. What country?

Travel, and especially the sort where a person lives in another culture, can be a huge eye opener and personality shaper .Though it can be tough as well.

The internet certainly helps. I went years before any internet, and separation from family was difficult - I think a lot more so from my parents.

Travel being cheaper now, you may well be in the position to go visit.

I moved out at 16. The family home was about 20km out of town and my parents were getting tired of driving me back in all the time.. I've come a long way in the kitchen from starting with pickles sandwiched between 2 cheese singles.
