Just some thoughts about this that I would like the forum readers to give their opinion. Last week on local radio (2gb) Alan Jones interviewed an ex CSIRO scientist ( Danielle Anderson) who is currently working on the virus in Singapore and he asked her whether the virus could be man made, which she replied that it would be extremely unlikely and difficult to engineer. She went on to suggest that the virus was likely to have come from Bats and jumped to humans from there.
When this first happened in Wuhan the government went all out and shut the place down completely to stop the spread of the virus, and save lives and their economy. People who did not comply were jailed.
If the government was so vigilant to stop this virus with the string measures they took, why are they not concerned about the re-opening of the wet markets.

Tobacco farmers in FN Qld & NE Victoria were also reliant on a crop which was no longer able to be grown. Other than 'chop chop', no other tobacco is grown in Aust and farmers were given incentives & retrained to grow alternative crops eg grapes, olives and crops more suited to the climate.

No I just find it strange that after all the measures that Xi put in place to stop the virus including jail time for people who left their homes that they would let the wet markets start up again. It doesn’t make sense, is there some conspiracy going on here?

If the virus however is deemed to have been caused by fruit Bats and the infection occurred at the Wuhan seafood markets, then why has it re-opened. Fruit bats are currently on the menu.

Eating exotic animals is part of the Chinese culture that is for thousands of years. In fact many of the exotic animal parts forms as key ingredient of Chinese herbal medicine. As long as there is demand I cannot see it being shut completely.

Not going to happen but for a myriad of reasons (not just bc of C19), the world needs to reduce its dependence on China.

There are conflicting reports. Some say bats, some say potentially snakes , some say live prawns.
Not sure if anyone has a definitive answer as to how it was transmitted.
Could even be secondary..bats to seafood to humans dont know.

You're dreaming. Ask any epidemiologist and they'll tell you that the next one is not a matter of if, but when.

Hopefully we've all learnt something from C19 so we're better prepared for the next one.

Transmission was most likely from Bats and or Pangolins, according to the Scripps Research Institute.
It may well be present in other animals eg. Civet cats.

    • Covid 19
    • SARS
    • MERS
    • HIV/AIDS
    • Swine flu
    • Bird flu
    • BSE/Mad cow disease
All of these are likely due to the consumption or production of meat. The most logical conclusion would be to stop or restrict meat production, but unfortunately that's not going to happen!

Well you can have bigger stockpiles of PPE, a plan, a war-chest of funds, form some sort of CDC...do more public health training in schools...do some modelling on how best to rapidly close borders and implement quarantine.. I reckon after C19 we'll have learnt a lot and have a lot of data to pore through.

The next pathogen could come from anywhere. Not just China. Africa, the middle east...even here. Hendra virus could always mutate....who knows?

Like I said. It's an "If" not a "when".

The world would be a much much better place if we all ate plant based foods and didn't eat any animals. It's slowly changing as people become more aware of the damage we're doing to the planet by raising animals for food but we have far to go.
