    From an email I received:

A list of 10 habits of the wealthy.

These are compiled after years of study by Tom Corley - a Best Selling Author & Accountant who specializes in studying the habits of the rich.

Tom spent five years studying the daily activities of 233 rich people and 128 poor people, and this is what he discovered.

10 Daily Habits of the Rich

    1. 7 out of 10 rich people eat less than 300 junk food calories per day. Over 9 out of 10 poor people eat more than 300 junk food calories per day. - I have no idea for me.
    2. Poor people gamble more than twice as much as rich people. - Basically I don't gamble.
    3. Over 7 out of 10 wealthy people exercise four times a week. Less than a quarter of poor do this. - Typically exercise about 4-6x per week
    4. Nearly 7 out of 10 of wealthy write down their goals vs. 2 out of 10 for poor. Yes. I write down my goals.
    5. 16 times more poor people watch reality TV - I hardly watch tv, let alone reality tv
    6. Wealthy people are 8 times more likely to focus on accomplishing goals. :)
    7. Wealthy people are 3.6 times more likely to enjoy reading. I like reading
    8. Rich people are 12 times more likely to listen to audio books on the way to work. This I don't do... I read (this forum)
    9. Nearly half of the wealthy wake up 3 hours before work starts vs. 3 out of 100 poor people. Yes. About 3 hours. (I never used to)
    10. Wealthy people are 44 times more likely to educate themselves for 30 minutes or more each day :)

Is Tom rich? probably because he sells books.

    Point 1 seems irrelevant.

Point 5 is relevant. I observed far too many of my friends watching meaningless TV. time could be spent educating oneself.

Point 9 only works if one uses the time wisely.

I hate reality TV, but love junk food. So, now I can't tell if I'm destined to be rich or poor………….

As long as you're not eating KFC 3 times a day week in week oit you'll be fine. I still watch the news or docs on TV but a lot of programs arent really enriching my mind. I still don't get what that program is... have you been paying attention or something. is that a comedy program?

I think the above points simply indicate that wealthy people are deliberately choosing, and designing, a life that they want to lead. And that really comes as no surprise - wealth is not an accident (and neither is retaining wealth). It is hard work and takes a lot of focus.

So wealthy people don't eat junk food, don't watch TV, don't gamble, read heaps, exercise regularly and wake up 3 hours prior to starting work

the wealthy are potentially a disciplined lot, but I am weak:eek::oops:

I think the basis of point 10 is the only essential point to becoming successful, rich, wealthy, or whatever you want to call it.

I wonder if any of these habits could be a result of being wealthy.

Surely, it's gotta help. If I wasn't working so hard, and so tired all the time, I'd have a lot more time to exercise, and probably be getting enough sleep that I could wake up 3 hours before work.

Can't imagine a poor person who's just won 10mil in Powerball taking up any of those habits.
They are not exactly fun habits, but more a lifestyle choice for those who want to better themselves.

What defines a rich person? What defines a poor person?

Seems a little full of holes.. Plenty of fat wealthy people, in fact, it seems to be quite common off the top of my head.

Sounds like a rubbish study. Were the people randomly selected? Did they live in the same city, suburb etc.

    Weighted for age and gender?

What defined 'poor' and 'wealthy' in the study?

Were they working poor or unemployed or students?

Most of the financially wealthy people I know have the habit of being obsessed to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals, until its done. They laugh at the term 'balance'.

A poor person defines a rich person.

A rich person defines a poor person.

The rich person might not see themselves as rich and the poor person might not see themselves as poor.

    It's all perception.
