Sorry for the clickbait title, but its getting very weird

Anyone thinking what we are doing in Australia is a load of wonk, the nanny state/country

I am deprived of seeing my daughter in Melb its been 9 months. But I dont have covid, neither does my daughter. Can we test on the day To ensure we are all good to go

I cant take my MIL out as we are separated, same deal

wow, how did we allow this to happen? Politics, media and scaremongering

When one looks back in history in London the average age of death for tradesman was 22 and for their labourers was 16 till a British lawyer Edward Chadwick who helped reform the English Poor Laws that changed sanitary conditions that improved the life of everyone in 1842..
Fast track that to today with the concept of collective responsibility for everyone unless your the super rich then it is what it is..

Indeed. I doubt history will reflect fondly on how this has been handled.

We seem content to accept any government restrictions and digest all the media hype.... when the handouts stop, so too will blind obedience & the government is well aware.... so around and around we go....

You will be fine @MTR :D
All of that renovating, developing and international investing has your brain wired such that it see's an obstacle not a problem ;)
As @Indifference said, those on handouts will be fine also (until the tap runs dry).
It is those without a buffer or an outlet for their growing impatience that are of concern
Personally I am enjoying being left alone :p

I definitely need to shrink :D.

I have put on a couple of kilos over the last six months.

I blame PC. Sitting on my ass, countering all the negativity surrounding COVID .

    Depends on where individuals are:

    Either this

Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee.

    John Donne

    Or maybe this:

and the expensive delicate ship that must have seen
Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky,
had somewhere to get to and sailed calmly on.

I guess it depends on the person ... I won't be needing a shrink ... yet haven't seen my mother in 18 months - or my 102.5 year old grandmother - or my new grandchild that was born in May ... but we all keep in touch with chatty online catchups ... and it is what it is so either make the best of it with a positive attitude or grumble about the negatives

    Yes, I agree

Seem to be lacking leadership in Australia.

PM in lockdown in some bunker somewhere, never hear from him

Dunno what news you're watching but he seems to be on at least once every day - supporting the states - and it's the states that are making the decisions because that's how our constitution is set up.

Has the lockout been 9 months?

If we could have that test, the entire world would be open again.

My cousin can't take her MIL out either. She died of Covid.

The world goes around in circles - golden age, disaster, golden age, ... just like property goes boom, bust, boom, ...

As we know, Australia had 28 years of economic golden age. Some were warning that it had to come to an end.

Some took the warning seriously by getting their house in order, building up their cash reserves, stress-testing their property and share portfolios, ...

BUT many did not. They thought the good times would last for ever. It was going to be different this time. Some even thought that they were entitled to the good times.

For years, the world was being warned that we were overdue for a pandemic. Some took the warning seriously. BUT many did not. They thought the good times would last for ever. It was going to be different this time. Some even thought that they were entitled to the good times.

In my eyes, disasters like COVID is the world's way of reminding us of lessons that we have forgotten.

Important big things like "don't take things for granted", "you are not entitled to anything", "work hard/smart and you might get ahead", "the importance of family and friends", "the importance of having good, resilient mental health", "the importance of cash reserves", ...

Over the last 10+ years, I have been through a few personal disasters. In 2010, I started to slid in depression. I always thought I was strong mentally; apparently I wasn't strong enough. So I have worked on further strengthening my mental health.

In 2016, my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and it in 2018, she had 75% of her colon removed (side effect of her chemo). These health issues reminded us of things like "don't take things for granted", "you are not entitled to anything", "the importance of family and friends", ...

Even though these personal disasters were horrible to experience, I now believe, in hindsight, that we were lucky to go through them.

We didn't know it at the time but these personal disasters were preparing us for 2020. As a result, we are in a far better place mentally, financially, emotionally, technologically, ... to handle things today.

We are now patiently waiting for the next golden age. It will come. We have been through one and we are so looking forward to the next. How lucky are we.

I mean let’s set up tests, just so you can see your daughter. We will give you priority, so that you don’t have to wait too long.

Yeah it sucks, but we are in it together. People need to see the shrink less for covid and more for their entitlement

If people are going see a shrink for COVID, they definitely need to see a shrink plus be advised to go their GP/hospital for testing first :p.

Over 170,000 deaths in USA - a first world country, right now first in covid deaths. Why? Because it's just a flu. Thankfully we do have better leadership in Australia and not as many Karens.
