U gotta watch those blackberry/mulberry bushes. (I'd think there pretty similar) a few bushes of them is sweet, and very tasty :p but they pretty quickly become an infestation. I have a few acres close to Canberra that's now absolutely covered with them. I'm planning a build their soon and it's literally going to cost me thousands to remove the cheeky *******s! Sorry for this rant, I know yours is manageable lol but it's a good life lesson to know anyways. They really do spread like crazy! All you can eat berries has its perks, but I learnt my lesson not culling them sooner haha :)

Went berry picking at Micalong Creek at the Wee Jasper reserves - great place to pick free blackberries but you gotta wear protective gear! Hint... best to pick those berries using scissors!

Re: Mulberries - the tree is not actually in our garden but in a walk way to my bus stop that's well away from my home. All sorted, with no risk of a backyard invasion at my place. ;)

My parents use to have a mulberry tree in the backyard.
Every year as a kid i use to pick them and fill up containers.
    Good times :)

I'm pretty sure that tree was chopped down over 10 years ago.
Seeing that picture of mulberries brought back happy memories :)

There are so many solutions out there be it via remote or a smart switch yoi control by your phone, assuming hard wiring another switch nesr bed wasnt possible

    Hi Pinkboy,

if you move out of your ppor and turn it into an ip and the 6 year rule applies. if you just rent it out via airbnb you don't have to pay cgt right?

also in relation to having to pay partial cgt if you rent out a room while still living there and it being ppor via airbnb why do you have to pay partial cgt on that but not if you have someone paying board?

    Cheers, Elives

I'm not an accountant, so seek the appropriate professional advice, but my understanding:

If you are running airbnb while you are living in the property, you are deriving income from that activity. You are advertising a service, and receiving payment. You will be up for CGT wether claiming expenses or not. See: Renting out part or all of your home

'Board' according to the ATO is not 'rent' or 'income', but a domestic arrangement - so it is exempt from being treated as such and will not trigger CGT. If the arrangement is long term, you might be best to get a personal ruling from the ATO.

Our pet lizard is back :)

Last time we saw him/her was in June on the wall in the downstairs bathroom. S/he is now in the downstairs spare bedroom (on the curtain!)

We only just noticed this on an outside beam of our upper balcony....

For a bit of history, the Brandts owned the house between 1982 to August 1997. The Brandts got the wooden extension done in around 1986. (We found some old newspaper dating from 1986 in a crack between the old house and "new" house). It was just lovely to spot their name up there, probably just over 30 years since it was written!

Some of the items in that May 1986 Sun newspaper:
*Crocodile Dundee and Back to the Future and Police Academy 3 were in the movies
    *Cars were around 20k
*Houses were little more than 100k
    *Newspapers had pinups

Thinking of putting a "smart looking shed" out the back, so that would be our personal contribution to the history of the home. It can pay itself off in 18 months....

+1 for Frog Dreaming!! It was a must see! ;)
There are some real classic movies! Jewel of the Nile, King Solomon's mines, A Nightmare on Elm St 2, Pretty in Pink....
There's also "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and also Shelly Long. It says "For everyone who's ever been deeply in Love or deeply in Debt".
I think most of us here have been deeply in Debt. :)

The home itself is called "Rockleigh", so can we come up with a creative name for the second home that ties into that?
