Resettling of housing commission tenants as part of the Waterloo estate redevelopment is set to commence in mid 2018

"In keeping with our earlier planning timeframes and allowing for a later start to master planning, the first temporary re-locations of residents at Waterloo will not occur until mid- 2018"

Waterloo Information Sheet - Dec 2016 — REDWatch - Redfern Eveleigh Darlington Waterloo Watch Group

As mentioned in an earlier post there are also preliminary concept plans for part of the Redfern housing commission site Urban Growth property development plans Redfern.jpg

And who said that they weren't building any more land in the innercity?

There's also planning for the corridor to the south & east of central station including over the rail corridor.

Scott No Mates...yes. This is the concept plan...the CBD is coming to Redfern (well just north of Cleveland Street). The penny really dropped when I had a close look at this Central station buildings over.png plan

I don't have great confidence that they will build over the railways, atleast not for decades.
Too expensive and complicated and makes no sense at this time. Too much existing land that should be rezoned and built out first.

The land has been identified in the LEP and is appropriately zoned (B6 - Business Enterprise IIRC).

Planning is well underway and approvals will take a while but the site will be primed for the next cycle. Green Square et al needs to be exhausted first (40,000 new residents) before it decreases the risk.

This thread... CBD may well extend down into Redfern, but it's a long term proposition...

Don’t see why it is long term. A large chunk of CBD has already been built above rail tracks. Majority of Wynyard and Martin place are above the tracks.

This was the sort of deal that Donald Trump made his own in his early developing days in NY. Bought option to develop/air rights to NY Central Railway Yard and turned into $bn development. Pitty that we need to wait 20-30 years to get deals like this going. Need not be the case. Government needs to structure in the right way.
