how high off the floor are these usually hung? Having one built by a joinery but before I plan dimensions I want to start from the floor up :)

About 900mm from the floor to the bottom of TV. Give or take. :)

It's not a kitchen bench top!

TV would sit about 300-500mm from ground level but you need to work backwards and find out the height of the cabinet before working out how high to position it so that it sits at the height you want when sitting down with level eye vision.

I actually am after the usual gap between the unit and the floor. Then I’ll design the cabinet to put the tv at the right height.

High enough to clean under but not too high I guess.

    Is there a standard?

I did. But like you guys, it defaults back to tv height.

I just want the gap between floor and cabinetry.

I’ll ask the joinery guy I guess.

    :)

It would be similar to hanging a floating vanity, you need to know the height of the cabinet before fixing it at 750mm or whatever the standard is. Toilet roll holders like towel rails also have a spec height but in the end you put it where it's optimal height for your environment.

I know where I want the TV.

I just want to know if there is a standard height above the floor for any wall hung furniture.

Ease of cleaning, robot vacuums or not being unsightly.

I wish I could communicate it better.

I don’t know of a standard, @Simon - probably comes down to personal preference (along with the practical reasons you mentioned ie robo vac clearance etc).

I guess you just need sufficient access to clean. I would think 150-200mm would be adequate space under a floating entertainment unit. Maybe 300 if you want a perception of space...

Other things to consider.... will there be skirting visible? If so, whats the skirting profile? How tall is it? Do you want the floating entertainment unit to sit precisely at the point where the skirting ends, or do you want a gap from the top of the skirting to the bottom of the entertainment unit ?

maybe use a wall hanging / floating bathroom vanity as a reference point... as they typically sit a sufficient height from the ground for easy cleaning.... what height are they usually hung from the floor?

    Good info

No skirting. Reclaimed bricks meeting a polished concrete slab.

I’m thinking 200-300 will be the end result.

So that grey panel slides across to hide the tv when not in use

New Samsung cable system annouced today for new panels removes power and HDMI and its a 3mm cable through a wall cavity up to 15m....No need for a power point antenna or HDMI. One cable replaces the lot.

I argue in the above pic its a bit strange. Neck at 90 degrees if you watch TV content. What are shelves for ?? Looks like a kids play area and the kids cant watch TV...Parental control area ? A TV compromise?

Sorry for late reply. We have gone with 300mm as we have quite high skirtings and didn't want the cabinet to be too close.

We also factored in angles of mops/vacs and how deep and high the cabinet would then be.

At 300mm high we will have a 600mm high cabinet with a finished level of 900mm AFL
