The cornice will sell it!! Anyone notice that?

... and the doors are alright and i guess the floor is pretty cool and i think i invented the pantry idea

if you built an identical house without the above they would seem world's apart! And cost wise probably hasn't brown the bank, otherwise they wouldn't have been done. The cornice is more expensive, close to double/m?? The pantry is a bargain, half a day and some mdf

Very cool. Those things set you apart from the competition and are more appealing for buyers and tenants. And all it took was some thinking a few bucks!

@bob shovel you get no credit for the pantry - sorry. All my own genius :p

You're right in that the extras haven't cost an extreme amount but do add up.

On one hand we don't want to 'put lipstick on a pig' as no amount of fancy cornices will help some places. Nor do we want to over spec the houses either. It's a tough balance between look and $$

Approximately this is what I spent over the normal allowances for each side
    $300 cornices
    $500 pantry
$500 some kitchen cabinetry jiggery pokery (ie laminate doors to pantry instead of framed doors)
$2500 tiling (half for tiles over allowance and half for laying of harder to lay tiles) plus tiling the pantry which was an under construction idea
$200 better kitchen and laundry taps
$500 electrical (extra power points, lights etc)

I think all up it was around $5k which is not an excessive amount on a $280k build.

The last touch of lipstick on this little porker is the rust effects blade all out the front. 40sqm of rust effects paint on the two x 1.5 storey high blade walls holding up the alfresco.

The 5k sounds like money well spent. Any variation fee triggered?

All were agreed to before construction so no variation fee except for the tiling in the pantry. We'll have to see if I can sweet talk my way around being charged a fee on that one.

I added these tiles above the 'bench' in the pantry. Originally I hadn't planned on tiling the area then I decided it needed it.

Oh, great idea, turns it into a butlers pantry almost, or recharging station in addition to pantry, get the i stuff out of kids bedrooms overnight.

Looking good, especially architraves around the windows. Haven't seen that done in a looooong time. Good inclusion by the builder.

It's Taco Tuesday and site visit day. As tempted as I am to go all the time it's best to go once a week so I can appreciate the changes each week.

I think we are actually week 18 and builder wants to do practical completion around 3rd June/7th June. So we are about 2 weeks from that.

Grouting is finished and the tiles look schmick, ovens are in, aircons installed, door handles going on doors, painter still finishing off internal painting, taps are going in, carpet is being done this Friday (I think?)

Black kitchen gets the charcoal grout:

Grey kitchen gets the grey grout

    Matching laundry gets grey grout

Wood look tile flowing out to the alfresco - a recessed sill would look amazeballs but also cost $$$$$ so this will have to do.

    Everyone's favourite ensuite
