PM informed me that my IP in Melbourne needs the HWS replaced

She quoted $2,200 for a thermann 135L gas storage (installed)....I thought this was quite expensive

    Any recommendations or advice please?

Is it the same brand as the one that needs replacing?

Does it have to be a storage tank? How about an instantaneous system?

Bunnings charges about $300 to install and you can get a Chromagen unit for around $600-700.

I have had one of the Chromogens at my place for the past 7 or so years.

How many people does your IP hold .
Instantaneous heaters are more suited for small households.
Just be aware that instantaneous gas HWS have a pretty low flow rate, and some will only pump out enough hot water for 1-2 taps at a time, and they dont last as long as larger storage units.
If one person is having a shower and hot water is turned on somewhere else in the house the shower water will go cold,it depends on where the HWS is set up .
They also require a higher flow of gas than your standard gas pipes , so these may?? need upgrading.
Just try ringing around yourself to get some prices for a similiar size unit, ring up some plumbers/gasfitters and pick their brains.
We had a large electric storage HWS replaced about 5 years ago in our IP and it cost about $1500?, and suited for larger households (6)

You have to size the instantaneous systems for the number of bathrooms - for example a 20 litre is better for a one bathroom place, a 26 litre for two bathrooms (from memory) etc.
