    Hi guys,

Long time reader, first time poster :)

I'm looking to purchase a house+land in the "outer" north that has development potential.

My budget (on the initial purchase) is around 700/800K and I've been looking at Fawkner.

What are peoples thoughts on the suburb? Is the council alright to deal with?
Are there other suburbs nearby worth considering?

I'm not looking to develop straight away. Initially, just to rent it out and in a few years start getting plans and permits through.

    Thanks all

    Hey Peter,

When you say House+Land, are you referring to a 'house & land package' or a house on a decent block? If it's the latter then you shouldn't have too much trouble finding something with your budget.

Would you consider other areas in the North or is Fawkner your only preference?

You can find something on a decent block in Epping that's well under your budget.
    eg:
53 Kalman Road, Epping, Vic 3076 - Property Details
2 Aberdeen Court, Epping, Vic 3076 - Property Details

I'd also check out Lalor, Thomastown, Broadmeadows, Dallas etc. The market is booming in these suburbs but with your budget you can easily find something.

    Good luck.

Yes, only a (older) house on a decent block >650sqm, where I could potentially put 2 or 3 units on one day.

Do you know if councils are decent to work with in those suburbs?

I'm not too sure mate. Probably best to get in touch with them and find out what they allow.
