I came across an article in courier mail on google search just recently and the heading has indicated that 1000 people moves Brisbane a week. That means there will be more than 50,000 people moving there in another year which is huge! Since I don't have subscription to the news site, can anyone verify the authenticity of stats and where it comes from.

Can't read it - subscription only.
But do they specifically state it is *net* movement, or just number in? There could be 1000 moving in, but 1100 moving out!

Brisbane population growing by 1000 a week
    AUGUST 31, 2018

BRISBANE’S population is growing by almost 1000 residents a week, as the drought and a search for jobs drives people in from the regions.

Queensland’s population has historically been decentralised, with Brisbane’s share of the total smaller than the rest of the state.

But new Australian Bureau of Statistics data reveals a major social shift, with the capital catching up.

The state’s population grew by 840,000 in 10 years — nearly 452,000 of it in Greater Brisbane.

    Probably true..
But I'd ask so what...1000 a week sounds like a lot, but it's only 52k a year. Brisbane did 48k last year..about the same....and prices didn't move by a lot, at least not uniformly .
Expect the same even if it does 52k this year.
Given the high supply, Brisbane will need double these growth rates for real estate yo uniformly boom like what Sydney and Melbourne did. A lot of people don't really expect that anyway..

Oh, the boom is still very much inevitable....never mentioned timeframe though..maybe 30, 40 years from now, but it's inevitably gonna happen..

Disagree....job drive growth...Qld is starting to grow in this regard.

I see prices will be up significantly in about 3 years...the boom is unlikely to match Sydney or Melbourne but I can see 30-40% growth in the media in 3-4 years. I see the median somewhere in the mid to high sixes by 2022.

    About time.

Those of us who started investing during the recession post GFC have been waiting since 2010 for this growth.

if double that amount it will be
the growth quantity of Sydney and Melbourne with half the stock... I reckon 50k per year consistently coupled with good economy will set a signficant price rise in the next few years.

thats still 30% up right ? not too bad, but completely underwhelming compared to Sydney and Melbourne. I started there in 2014 with a 10 years view.

Agree... a number of people we know were looking for work last year...no jobs....this year multiple offers and name your terms...this in two different industries. This has been the missing ingredient for some time so hopefully the credit restrictions don't dampen it too much and the middle to outer rings get some good growth...

Where did you get the 30% figure? The house we live in was worth around $450k at the commencement of the GFC and it is worth $500k now. To have 30% growth it would need to be worth $600k now. It has historically mirrored the Brisbane median value for as long as I can recall seeing these types of stats.. In 2010 we bought another house valued around the Brisbane median for low $400s and it is worth 25% more ($500k) now after 8 years.

25% is close enough, ok its about 30% from up from low point of 2012.

450 to 500 is a 1/9th increase. That is 11% altogether, spread over a total of ten years. At least we didn't start investing in Perth at the same time :).

I don't think it's entirely accurate. They are talking about ."greater Brisbane" probably includes Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, and from what that article says, parts of the northern Goldcoast. That is a very large area to spread that many people, about 60km radius.

When most locals talk about "Brisbane" they are really talking about Brisbane City Council area, or just outside 20km radius) which is significantly smaller. 50,000 to that area would have a much bigger impact. These days as well i think people spread themselves out a lot more widely. Personally I don't feel that Brisbane itself has a "booming" population right now .. growing sure.
