Does anyone have any idea where I can get one of these posts, as well as a foot to go with it in Sydney?
    Second hand is fine too.

I'd hazard a guess that you could get away with a round Koppers log but will require a joiner or wood turner (someone with a lathe) to create the base (also out of treated pine).

A carpenter should be able to check the timber design standard to ensure that the correct stress grade of timber is used (ie what is it holding up - metal deck or tiled roof).

Is there a problem/rot in the post ?
Or is it just the foot/surround that is unsightly now ?

Hi Spludgey, if you end up needing the base turned my husband is a woodturner - makes the bases for the Melbourne Cup and the Australian Open Tennis! We're in Seven Hills though which may be a long way for you.

Thanks mate, probably a good idea, but it sounds a bit more expensive than I was hoping.
Sounds like it might be cheaper to just replace all four with 90x90 square posts, even if I include the price of an acroprop.

Dry rot. It's actually not supporting anything anymore, with the other posts bracing the roof.

Thanks Kate, I might message you and get a quote, but as I mentioned above, I might go in a different direction.
I'm in Carlingford, so Seven Hills would be very convenient.

Have you given consideration to replacing the posts with powder-coated steel ones? Sure they are expensive but the long-term benefit is effectively zero maintenance.

Get an acro, if the post isn't rotten (only the base), get a new base made up. Hire the acro for a couple of days from your local hire place.

These are the original posts (I assume anyway) for a house built in 1974, so if the new ones last 45 years, that's okay with me.

Unfortunately the rot is in the post and it will continue to slowly spread. Being lazy, I already thought of that option. ;)

Propertychat is a very useful website - even has a link for new posts. Maybe @Simon Hampel was thinking it was a necessity for someone.
