These are a couple of street plantings - there's a car for scale.

They don't escape the wrath of the Ausgrid tree trimmers either.

They are ready to harvest when the leaves turn yellow and start dying.

Pulled the tomatoes out after the fruit fly started causing havoc (into the bin) ... finally finished the last of cucumbers (cucumber relish anyone - actually - you can't have it because it's delish!) ... now starting on the second wave of sweetcorn, after eating and eating and giving away and Christmas sharing the first lot (think I'm going to have to freeze a lot this round).

On tenderhooks with the watermelon - picked one as I debated whether it was ripe (you tell by the die off of the curly tendril opposite on the stem) - it was sweet and juicy but colourless. Apparently the red colour is the last thing to develop so I'm trying to be patient ... the pumpkin vine is dying back so eying off the several dozen pumpkins being exposed  ... the parsnip are so close, but not fat enough for tonight's roast ... asparagus is still shooting, but will continue to let it be to develop it's crown ... the sweet potato vine is going nuts, has filled the garden bed under the apples and is now moving in under the deck.

Have decided to plant the coffee tree in the garden as it'll end up to big for the pot, and might free the fig tree too, just have to ponder where.

Pumpkin vine is going ******* & getting bigger - about 8 japs biggest is 8" most are 2-4". Having to pollinate as the bees are a bit lacking.

Tallest tomatoes come in over 8'(too tall to pick without a set of steps) @Lizzy - cherry tomatoes don't get bugs.

Brush turkeys attacked the sweet potatoes

Currently busy plucking Wandering Dew out of the lawn - a thankless task.

Still working on this first watermelon at lunch - and already have two more in the bottom of the pantry (will store for 2 weeks at room temp) ... diced with fresh picked basil/mint, crumbled feta and a dash of balsamic ... nomnomnom

Just pulled some lemongrass for tonight's Thai green curry (with home grown garlic and ginger)

If nothing else - plant herbs!

I have heard of mixing it up with savoury flavours, sounds interesting.

Where can I get some black and white newspapers to put on top of soil in garden beds before putting on mulch, to suppress the weeds? Am in Sydney north shore area. I have collected cardboard boxes from Bunnings and other places, but they are hard to cut up due to their thickness. TIA.

Just thinking, it has been raining on and off the last few days, maybe i can leave the flattened cardboard boxes out in the rains, they will get softened and I can put them on top of the soil before mulching.
