I have found in the past that as US shares fall, AUD falls too, so the total value drop of US shares is typically much smaller in AUD terms.

I have recently been looking at investing directly via US markets and some ETFs via US - I looked at Stake and I think its a great model option, well marketed and yes costs are free, but you lose out on FX exchange which is 0.7%

IB may have a $10/month but superior trading costs and FX exchange it is really hard to beat

I wanted to get some more advice and was hoping to lean on some experienced international movers and shakers...

I am wanting to expand and purchase some direct shares and EFTs in the US and UK eg Tesla that I plan to hold onto .....hopefully indefinitely

Planning on adding in small parcels monthly. I am looking at using Interactive Brokers as my broker

    • From my understanding, no CHESS in the US but the Custodial system - is it designed for purchase and hold for many years shares like I am intending
    • IS DRP an option with US shares or does it depend on your broker
    • Are there concerns about Estate planning and keeping >60K worth of US shares
    • Purchasing shares on ASX with IB - I know it wont be CHESS sponsored, does that mean if I have shares in an existing fund (eg VTS) will the shares be added to that "pile" or be the equivalent of having two HIN etc
    Thanks for info

How about buying into a US Index via iShares S&P 500 ETF - IVV , Also I read that the Dow is getting hit hard cause of possible Trump trade war which may mean a good buying opportunity into the Dow? What do you think?

I was going to post another thread asking a question but I will ask it here if this is ok with MTR.. Sorry to hijack your thread but it's on topic..

iShares S&P 500 or Vanguard VTS ? Any opinions on which would be a better buy?

Bought Alibaba, Google, & Amazon last week. I’ve some dividend stock (I bought few years back) as well, currently at usd $180k. Used to play vix but my body isn’t capable of handling the pressure/ stress anymore.

May buy some Facebook and Amazon later if it drops a bit further....

Great time to buy now. Esp when Trump sends a bad tweet. The market will always bounce back. I’ve been using this strategy for a while already.

If you don’t want to spend too much time, you can just buy an etf or $spy.
