Considering the US stock market is booming, is anyone buying? Are you buying direct?

    How do you do it?

Thinking of getting my feet wet. Have US bank account and funds in US

My gut tells me that Trump will get those tax reforms over the line, could be very good for growth.

Be interested in a discussion on this? Any US shares that look attractive?

    MTR:)

Our banks online trading platform allow one to buy US shares.

The US market is going well. I haven't dipped my feet into the US. I have dipped my feet in Oz market and a shark bit me lol.

I’ve been buying some small parcels of ETFs direct in the US (in USD).
I started a few years ago when the Aud was higher and I felt that the US had turned the corner.
I was holding USD at the time and felt that a)the Aud was going to slide and b) the US market was going to climb faster than the Aus market.
It was one of my FX plays when the Aud to high.

I use interactive brokers as the trading platform. All set up online. It’s a fairly complex system more designed for regular (day) traders. But works fine for buy and hold. It just comes with a lot more ‘features’ than I require. It costs $10/month minimum. And each trade has a small %charge. But first $10/month is included.
To be honest it’s probably a better platform than commsec.

I’m about 80% up over the portfolio in a couple of years ( measured in Aud).
I have few other investments which have performed this well.

I think this years reporting cycle will very positive.

Black Friday and cyber Monday broke records this year.

Ones to watch are amazon and Walmart imo.

I agree. I've recently reduced my US holdings via vanguard etf and allocated further in china focused through platinum international. I am not expecting US to fall much but lowest volatility index for sometime tells me sooner or later it should trade close to its median range...of course, I can be wrong in that case I am part still in it....;) I would love to get some drop off in European market to get the entry....

I think the US is going to boom over the next decade, personally. Whether there are any true legs to the growth or not, the US economy is getting a lot of hype lately and it's been through a period of relative depression. Housing in particular is undervalued. Ireland's doing ridiculously well too, along with much of Europe.

About to dip my toe in the water as I have backtested a systematic system on US market and good results plus robust

Just wasn’t sure if I should use my Oz property accountant or use seperate accountant- would prefer Oz based

Depends on the level on investment you are looking at.
Probably your existing accountant would be fine given the level of cross boarder agreement thevATO and US have.

If you need a structure I probably have some contacts. But not Aus based. Otherwise try MTR Who I know has an entity and contacts in the states.

I think its going to be a roller coaster ride...has something to do with the tariffs....
A question for everyone if US stocks fall, does this generally also impact on Aussie stocks? Recently this has been the case??

The US economy has been changing with unemployment getting lower and asset price growth getting higher, Janet is out and Jerome is in

It's said “when Wall Street sneezes the world catches a cold”

    How about China

Yes it will,as it would be hard to understand the relationship between individual markets within the US and Australian ASX listed and conscious uncoupling and the growing cottage industry of advisers ..
Every day is the same, one list of advisers will say buy-another list will say sell while other's just ride their high horse looking down ,if you can find the balance in-between all those you will do well, after all it's just a number on a page that is different each hour..
