It's not about being unhappy with what I have. I do it as a thought exercise to develop creative thinking and exercise my brain. Not specifically lotto, but if I had a ridiculous amount of money, what would I do with it? My thoughts immediately turn to helping others because I could not possibly use all of the money myself. I know from experience that handing out cash is very damaging for people, so then the thought process is about how to help people constructively. I've seen some documentaries about people who went into third world countries and helped the people set up businesses to provide long term incomes. I like that kind of model. Back in Australia, I like the idea of investing in helping people with further education. I think that would be a great way to invest money in people. The other aspect is spending the money or investing the money and investing the income stream in helping people. The idea of setting up an income stream and helping people with that appeals to me. It means the money could be put to good use over a longer period of time. I find these things interesting to think about.

@THX I didn't buy the lotto. The news reported ridiculously long lines of people in SF. @Azazel we'll be kayaking, snorkelling, catching up with friends and bushwalking. Should be great. Vegas is interesting but not my cup of tea.

Can't wait to start looking at properties when I return.

In relation to the topic, I wouldn't know what to do with the money for at least a while but logic dictates that a trust is to be set up for it and then think about the use later.

Like the majority, we didn't win tonight either.......and thankfully, there was no pain in buying our losing tickets today. I heard a story on radio on my way home about people lining up for hours outside a store in Los Angeles - because that particular store had previously sold 7 lucky first price winners. Crazy but true.

My youngest child (aged 9) asked me this morning what we could do with so much money. We agreed it was too much for any one person and maybe we should give most of it away. Pity, we didn't win.

Yep - San Antonio. Being offered a job here isn't such a crazy dream. It has record low unemployment with skill shortages in the usual places.

We took our eldest son to a school fair last night - he will be graduating from middle school this year and moving to high school next academic year. He is a straight A student and is wanting to apply to magnet/specialist schools for his final school years.

IT and Engineering specialist high school graduates in San Antonio are exiting out with job offers and paid college/university tuition, with starting salaries of $50,000+ at the tender age of 18.

I wish I could do it over again.

I spend a lot of time in Frisco, Texas (near Dallas) and am amazed at the number of large companies relocating to Texas. Where I stay there are always overseas recruits staying prior to finding a house.

Chrispy, Texas is a non union state .....wages overall are lower but that is offset by lower cost of living in comparison to the rest of the US........and Texas offers hefty subsidies to major corporations to relocate their operations. I can see how the combination would make financial sense to the majors.

The current fight is between Austin and San Antonio on air space and flight costs. Austin is currently winning a bigger slice of the business but is paying by higher cost of living. San Antonio is picking up more flight coverage and gaining bigger increases overall.

We lived in Los Angeles in the late 1990s......and after living in Sydney for some 15 years, decided that Texas was the best decision for relocating for our family........based on property prices being cheaper, the quality of education for our children as far superior.......as well as job opportunities far surpassed most other states in the US.

When making our decision, we had family and friends across the US.........and Texas won on many fronts..........mostly because we have children and they were our primary concern. If I didn't have children to worry about, Los Angeles has my heart.

    Fancy!
Thought it might've been one of those "You have one the 1,000,000,000 euro prize" emails.
