I only started buying LICs in the last 12 months (in an attempt to simplify our investments).

So most of the gains were from direct shares over the last 16+ years.

Good Luck.. 2019 will be best time to invest more on shares. Looking at the banks shares. for ANZ, if its about 7% dev returns why not to buy.

In the past I used to get happier on seeing my portfolio increase in value but then I realised I am still in accumulation phase I really want prices to stay stable for extended periods or even go down so I can accumulate more shares for the same dollar value. So nowadays I kinda feel annoyed when prices are higher than last time I went shopping for shares.

    Cheers

I bit the bullet and bought CSL and Cochlear maybe March two years ago knowing they used to be cheap shares.
Ditto CBA. But I can’t go back in time.

I just hope they all go up in value over time. Just like house prices. I also hope they keep throwing off increasing dividends. This is a patience thing...

Yeah, I am buying more direct bank shares (ANZ and CBA) to add to my existing holdings and I have more exposure indirectly by buying more LIC shares.

    Bring it on!!!

Hope you already bought (they probably still have a lot more upside though).... Now my super balance jumped up a few more k. Another all time high! I'm possibly a bit overweight on CBA because I used to work for them.

Wouldn't have a clue what my SMSF or personal holdings are doing. Don't check.

I can only suggest you stop it or you'll go blind.

@kierank great to see your gains in such a short period of time. That means I'll get a thick red envelope from you when I'm in Brissy on the 14th. Thanks

    Isn’t it great?

Now up 9.5% since Christmas :D.

Might go into 100% cash and buy a couple of Sydney properties ;).

It's a "press one app icon" on my phone... Wish I could chart it over time that easily! It's not really something I can touch, but I like to see it going up. In my old super, hardly anything happened for a long time. Now I think its up around 100k compared to 2 years ago and my contributions have been less than half of that. This is really significant to me.
    I reckon you could ;)

    ohhh yeah.
Can I have one too? I love red packets
You are my favourite Brisbane Uncle :p

Yes, I quite understand. It's a shame in someways a retirement income via superannuation is linked to an asset which not only fluctuates from year to year but minute to minute.

I was down over 30% on the total line up just before Christmas -- 2008-2009 it was over 60% ,then you have a day like yesterday where all the dots line up and a break-out happens and just under 100k is back on the table and I don't compete with anyone..And by the looks by the data in front of me it could be another 50 k today..

I'm indifferent to it. I take the legislated minimum account-based pension, a large portion is also in accumulation phase and my income outside of superannuation is such I don't require superannuation to meet my needs or wants. So now it's something which is just there.

Price fluctuation are just that to me and I'm not interested in prices except when I intend to invest funds. Other than that I'm not overly interested in the share market.

Don't be rude to my uncle @kierank... He might take a few more dollars out of your red packet.
