i have been away for nearly two weeks on a cruise.

Came back yesterday and noticed our share portfolio went up 5% during our absence.

So I dug a little further and we are up 7% since Christmas.

I trust all those folks who cash out last August/September got back in just after Christmas and received their 7% ;).

Now booking our next cruise, might stay away a little longer :D.

With the lead up too the ex dividends cut off period over the next few months that 7% may well go above 20% range ..
I was over 30% down on the entire set-up prior to December ,just had a quick look a minute ago it's still around 26.76% as the ripples will rapidly spread..

    I hope so :D.

Yeah, for this FY, my loss is 6%.

Even when I account for dividends received, I am still down 4%.

It would be great to be in positive territory by 30 June as it means our 4% mandatory pension next FY will be larger than this year’s ;).

My super is $1408.17 short of a major milestone. Half of last year it completely went nowhere, in fact, it went backwards. And so its going up now.... At its all time high peak.
Of course, some of it is due to additional contributions.

I moved half to cash and the other half to a safer option. Ours has gone up again this past week. But I'm not yet ready to move back to a riskier option. Watching and waiting.

Well no.... Still got a PPOR mortgage. If we remained at our old PPOR we'd be PPOR mortgage free now, but that's ok. This home is worth it :)

At least I enjoy my work, though today was quite a challenge. Non stop emails and system issues.... my assistant has gone on 3 weeks of holidays... (How dare she!!!) I have 2 more weeks to get through by myself....

The quote was from Monday afternoon. Now it's Saturday morning. Exciting news. My super passed through that milestone!
It went down, stayed down, went up... Then passed through that barrier! It's now $1109.36 past it!

So it went up 2.5k in the week. Would be nice if it could do that every week.... There would be no need to work really....

Ps. Had my annual performance review yesterday afternoon. I couldn't be happier! :)
Good to work with fabulous people and doing work I really enjoy. I feel I am making a really good contribution to the business. Very positive stuff!

Yeah, it has been a good week, we are up 2.04%

    ... and a good month, up 8.25%

    Beats Sydney property ;).

Sadly, share portfolio is still down 3.32% for this FY

Still, is is better than Sydney property :D.

    Go girl!!!!

    Awesome! and thanks @kierank :)

I just had a thought... the share gain I had this week would annualise to 120k per year. (If you calculate 2.5k = 10k/month *12). Which is the exactly the same as the Sydney house price drop for the year (according to one thread)....
So shares growth offset the house price decline... more or less
Still, you said your shares went down 120k in October.... huge. Good thing you are in for the long haul.

This quick rise is a perfect illustration of the unpredictable market. There were calls of further falls in December and had people sold in anticipation they would have missed out on the 5% rally. Glad I went on holiday and came back to find my shares were up 5%.

I think my analysis paralysis is helping me. "Should I sell, should I short, what about this, what about that, oh hey, it's rallied back above before"o_O

Yes, some people may have sold in December, absorbing the original fall, and then missing the subsequent gain, all because they thought the market was going down further.

Mine is SMSF in pension phase; can’t take risks with that.

I know its never linear but I'd be happy with a 7-8% CAGR in the share price of my stocks. 10% CAGR and I'd be stoked.

    Yeah, I am pretty happy.

Since our first purchase in Octber 2002, we have achieved 9.09% CAGR and 5.95% in dividends.

I am still still young, be 2 another decades before I get there -:)

But I don’t take excessive risk,
I ensure the exposure risk which if **** hit the fan I can make the money back in 12 months or less.
