Police have always used unmarked cars

The best story doing the rounds a few years ago , was a battered wreck , with surfboards on top and two long haired blond surfie types in the front .

According to my paramedic neighbours , the give away is the extra ariels on top

today at 8.55 am , just off bobbin head rd in Suburban Turramurra I saw a Motor bike pulled over by a sporty looking red BMW . No obvious extra ariels ( maybe they've tweaked to that one ) . Only give away was the profile of the police man who looked straight out of the play book, for your typical mucho male police officer .

So if you driving along at 12 over the limit in the right lane , passing the inside lane slowly and a sporty looking red BMW starts tailgating you , don't speed up and pull over to let him pass .... ( not that you average PC'er would do that any way ...)

    Yeah they're getting creative now

I saw 2 motorbike police in Perth. One on a normal visible one the other on a Suzuki dirt cross over bike (big klx?). The give away was they ride together and the police vest but still not the usual obvious get up.
I later saw the under cover guy pull over a car for speeding, then call his mate for back up

Walking through the Sydney cbd last week I saw a pair of unmarked horses carrying a couple of officers. Next thing you know is they'll be on hardtail mountain bikes or skis ;)

SAPOL were doing the rounds at a banked up set of lights all day one time - where two police on pushbikes would wait for the red light to bank up 50+ cars, then ride between all the parked cars and issue fines for anyone on their phone. The light pattern would take ~5 minutes to run, so needless to say you'd see a lot of people copping a fine.

@See Change ariels is a common one in NSW. Also one that I look for is anything hanging from the rear view mirror like those car deodorizer things. They will never do it. Cause its illegal. Same goes for any other modifications that would be classified as defect. Although they may seem to blend in, using unmarked cars and lately with unconventional car makes (BMW) they will never have things that are illegal. Huge mags, too lowered suspension, Loud exhausts etc. That's been my observation anyway.

York , that might work out west , but on the north shore , the BMW's tend not to have mods like Huge Mags , lower suspensions and loud exhaust.

Though my son does have a westie friend ( Well , west of the pacific Hwy , Hills area I think ....;) ) who does and when he left my son's 21st , I could hear the car driving away for around a minute ...

Could of been a High Ranking Officer going to work in his private car and took action against a driver?

The only time I have a push bike is when it has a flat :(

    Otherwise it's a bicycle or a roadie :p

Generally private cars don't have the red and blue flashing lights installed as an optional extra , which this did .

Not unmarked but I am sure the police would love these from Dubai Police

Last week we were driving along the M2 in Sydney when we came up to a dark grey Hyundai iLoad van with all of the computer equipment on the dash. Totally unmarked. Very sneaky.

Forget the BMW. Watch out for this McLaren if you see it around Sydney. Looks like it came straight out of @Bran's carpark at work...:D

@York - last time I looked the Chatswood LAC has a Porsche (purely for PR events & it's a loan car).

Not only specialists , there was a GP in Tregear ( Mt Druitt ) who had a liking for upmarket sports cars and finally indulged himself but after it was stolen for around the sixth time stopped driving it to work.

There's another GP in Brookvale who is up to around his 7th Ferrari ( 7 owned all at the same time .... not sequentially.... ) . Apparently his wife doesn't know about all of them . He is a workaholic and has been investigated by the HIC for over servicing which he successfully defended as he works long hours .

I would've thought that he'd have enough cash to take the car to the dealer for servicing.
