United overbooked. Don't see why they didn't just throw more money to get people to leave. Why forcefully remove people who have paid for their seat.

Could have done a silent auction type where people write down the number they would take to get off the flight - then negotiate with the lowest 4 and have them sign something that prohibits them from speaking about the payout. Be much cheaper than what PR they are going to have to fork out now.

I HATED flying in the US. It always felt like a lottery if we'd make it on the plane or not.

There are things you can do to ensure you get a seat (pay extra to buy seats etc), but for an Aussie can be a bit of a culture shock....

America is such a ******** sometimes. What becomes commonplace just doesn't occur elsewhere

Shocking behaviour but not surprising, there is a real issue there with people on Frontline with some sort of power abusing it regularly

I´m surprised noone took up the offer ($800 !). I jump at the requests to get bumped and rush the counter when they announce them. Some of the best have been business class upgrades on the next flight, 5 star hotel & restaurant in Amsterdam + flight credits for free trip to Egypt from London, $400 in the US. Been bumped at least 5 times on the Zurich-Barcelona route for 250 CHF + meal voucher to get the next Friday night flight 3.5 hours later. Often there are too many volunteers, have to be quick.

This guy even got chaperoned off the plane, didn't even need to put his feet on the ground or take off his hand luggage.

Now that's what you call service.

I heard people were offered $1k but the maximum offer is $1.3k (I think). I'm surprised nobody took the $1k on offer (if that report is true) and wait another hour or so. To treat one person like they did was disgusting.

    It's just a disgrace.

Anyway... i'm boycotting United now. That's no way to treat people!

Ps. A friend shared that he bought tickets months in advance, business class, star alliance diamond member, he had luggage checked in and got bumped off the flight as he was about to board! And the staff did not care at all...
Ps. Coincidently... he is also a Chinese doctor...

I am surprised they did not use a gun
I see a big fat law suit coming.....

Seriously hard to believe this happened.

It was only two weeks ago that I heard about two people who were kicked off United for wearing leggings, totally ridiculous.
2 Girls Wearing Leggings Not Allowed on United Flight Because of Dress Code Rule; Incident Prompts Twitter Response

Its pretty common knowledge in USA that United is one of the worst airlines, don't go there.
