Apart from the usual investment properties/ renovations etc. Just wondering what are some unconventional methods people have used on here?

Bought some diamonds in the early 1980's after reading in "Playboy" that 5 k invested would be worth 30k within 5 years they would be worth less now that even with a 300 dollar diamond scanner one would not even pick the high class fake diamonds that are now within that market..As the fakes still scan up as diamonds of the scale..
Also bought some Artwork from a auction in the early 1990's when Mr-Skase did a runner to Spain and what was left of his assets were all laid out on the auction house floor, those Australian Art are worth a lot more now
but not something i would ever sell, ever time i walk past those paintings and think about Skase and smile..
Property and dividends reinvested are the only ones that have grown in pretax value ,takes a long time to begin the learn to tell the difference and become a standalone investor-and with Labor future plans it was the right way to go..

I only invest in full ones, though they do leak copious amounts.

invest in your children, and bringing them up as decent and responsible individuals, and teach them to be in control of their own financial lives as soon as possible. ;)

What about unconventional property investments? Such as I saw 1 guy that used to add an extra room by renovating the kitchen into 2nd/ 3rd bedroom, this was in the U.S though, doesn't really seem as feasible here.

Doesn't that normally cost you a lifetime of wealth with a payout/alimony to the older recently ex-wife?
The younger wife would have to be damned good to make up that lost wealth.

You're assuming there was an older ex wife and payouts/alimony normally only last while children(if any) are dependants.

I wouldn't consider that a wife needs to make up for any lost wealth.

agree, when we are older, seeing own children and grandchildren will be a great pleasure and delight in life. and with right mindset and attitude, they would have already been doing well themselves. :)
