Accidental checking. I logged in to myGov then myTax, saw the super section and apparently I have about $200 in my old super

Why would you have any money in an account that you don't tend? Just like keeping some mint $100 notes sitting in a book somewhere in the bookshelf, then forgetting about it.

The government has 13K of mine from shares after a company takeover I neglected to claim from. Pain to recover, certified copies, etc. Will get around to it one day.

A few holidays the way I spend.. will do it soon.
Was only alerted to it by all these shady law companies offering to retrieve my mystery money. For a hefty commission no doubt.

I have a list, most property related, pain to try and get back, but may as well try in spare time.

$40 - from interstate toll road. Lost the plastic toll car clip but recently found so can now claim

$32 Qld govt dept. I'm guessing it was for car insurance and I'm still using the company for an IP so it's annoying I now need to see JP to claim when they have my updated address

$150 from interstate PM who took out extra in fees when I sold property. She did a weird calculation including a month of new owners rent, then deducted it but still charged me the PM fee

$395 from bank for package fee that I Negotiated to have waived. Just got it back today.

Not sure why this happens in other people favour most of the time ;)

Mandurah does not surprise me. Quite a lot of it's demographic would have had multiple jobs and multiple funds and when the funds can no longer locate where the person lives the money gets put in the lost and found pile.

Much of these issues arose prior to people being able to nominate who their Super fund was. People had $50 here there and everywhere thanks to Employer nominated funds until the govt realised that being able to nominate by the Employer was the best thing for them.

Super makes money by compounding loveliness so it's good if the people can find it and roll them all into one scheme/fund so that it can do it's best.

The shady law company did you a favour by notifying you. It's a community service! :) My mate got one of the letters and I showed her how to DIY the money for free :p You just need to know how to find the mystery money... which isn't very difficult really.

Hehe. I lived in Mandurah and I think my peak super was 8 separate funds. All low value of course. It took years to try to consolidate them all. PITA of a process. I got the last 3 done through myTax. Click, click, done! Great system! :)
