    I have rented a house for 16 years, and my landlord didn't want me to paint the same colour at my cost or never changed the carpet as well.

    When I came to the property it was 24 years old paint and carpet.

    So. I have to move on to the new property.

    Sorry to hear this - especially as you were responsible enough to ask permission and use the same colour.

    How silly of that owner. They likely will have to paint through before the next tenant moves in. They lose you (clearly a good tenant), lose several weeks while it is repainted, or may well wait several weeks if they don't paint it because it looks shabby. Very shortsighted owner...

    It does seem to happen though, have seen some places that look like an absolute dump due to paintwork and carpets sit vacant but eventually rents out after some time, it’s a false economy to not spend the money when it’s required.
