@dabbler so the people doing it tough with Obama in power probably would not want more of the same?

The issues go back for and past the last decade.

Big hopes for Obama not met, Hillary seen as part of the problem for a long time, it is essentially the same problem we have, a crippled government that bickers and argues while making sure own pockets and interests are looked after.

Loss of money from wars also a big part, it has drained the money but not from those at the top with interests in the war machine.

Corruption in accepting money & other areas

The Americans, in general, do not take well to all the PC stuff we seem to be able to put up with here, they have had enough, Trump is a hope for change. He has his work cut out for him, he risks learning the game of politics too well IMO, for instance the wall, on banning certain groups of people (of which I doubt he will do much about), changing trade and getting people new jobs that may no longer exist anyway, his acceptance speech gives some hints though, such as working on infrastructure to create jobs.

And so on, there are many issues.

Depression made much worse by 1930 Smoot-Hawley tariffs. Ironically Trump's plan to borrow billions and invest in infrastructure looks like a replay of FDR's New Deal. I wish we were borrowing at record low rates for infrastructure rather than repeatedly signing up private finance deals that will cost us dear in the decades to come.

There's the possibility of tanking our housing markets.

Of course, this is pure speculation. Brought to you by the same media who predicted President Hillary.

There's a huge gap between what Trump has stated he wants to do, what he actually does want to do, and what he can do.
Is Donald Trump going to burst Australia's housing bubble?

That's a concern @geoffw from this point of view. Typically an interest rate rise would be associated with inflation. However, if the cost of lending goes up, we could get a rate rise without inflation. I can't see how that could be good for the economy.

They will likely raise rates in the US now this is done, they should hold off I reckon, I believe they are skewing the data.

We could also get rate rises from downgrading of multiple things here.

There are many ways we could have to pay more & they existed no matter whom got in.

Our shares were improving until the inauguration and have now slumped again. Time to move them to a less volatile option I think.
