I'm wanting to give some money to someone who is traveling to Europe in a few weeks.

If I don't know the bank details to transfer funds, can I buy a travel card for someone else, or is this something that would need to be in the person's name and need his input to arrange?

In simple terms, can I surprise someone with a loaded card of some type that they can spend overseas?

If it gets too hard, do it the old fashioned way.

Pop into Crown Currency at Carindale and get some Euros in cash.

OK. I'll go. :) I'll pre-poll vote and be out of the country when BS wins the election

Most retail travel cards are quite fiddly and have lots of fees etc. Better off giving it in cash IMO (or alternatively pay for tickets or another experience they'd appreciate in one of the places they'll be visiting).

If it was for yourself, I'd recommend a Citibank debit card which has no fees but you obviously can't open that for someone else!

Coles do a prepaid debit mastercard which I think would do what you want. They did have a reloadable but it seems to be gone now so they only have them in $50 and $100 so depending on how much money you want to give them you could do multiples of those.

Thanks for the ideas. I think the simple way of just transferring funds is the best way, and allows the traveller to take the funds how best suits their travel needs.

I lose a little of the "surprise" element but it is easier all round I think.
