NZ as soon as the fam (on both ends) is all vaccinated - and they open the bubble again.

WA in 2022 - yep - that feels like overseas atm

I guess as soon as borders are open and you want to visit someone, take the opportunity and just go, because you never know how quickly the borders will close and the opportunity presented again.

We are vaccinated, certificates printed out.

Just waiting to be able to visit our son and his family in Victoria a bit more easily once home quarantine for vaccinated people is approved.

But that's the problem - you don't want to be caught by a sudden border closure, or forced to quarantine for 14 days (at your own expense) when/if you get back.

A friend from Newie flew out from Sydney to Perth right at the start of the Sydney outbreak (when it was still contained in Bondi) - for a long-ago-booked trip to kayak with the Whale Sharks. She even left three days early, in case she had to isolate in Perth until a negative test came back ... mid flight WA slammed shut and the whole planeload landed, only to be told to turn around and go back home.

She immediately booked a flight home (at her own expense) - spent 2 hours in the airport - and then returned home, only to be advised Sydney Airport was a hotspot. Had to drive back up the freeway and sit at home for 2 weeks and return 2 negative tests.

No airline credits - only got a 60% refund for the booked tour.

Earlier this year we went to Northern Territory while it and WA were open. Definitely recommend.

Next up is Tasmania later in the year. Direct flights between Hobart/Perth have removed the risk posed previously by interconnecting flight at Melbourne Airport.

Both are low risk locations for outbreaks meaning we can get back to WA readily.

These are places we wouldn’t have visited this year if we could have gone overseas as originally intended.

Overseas trip we are hoping, hoping, hoping will be possible mid next year is North-East USA & up into Canada.

Home quarantine is possible now in WA. Only international travellers are required to quarantine in hotel (or domestic if you don’t have ability to do so at home.)

Territory or Northern WA in winter, Tassie in summer.

We would not go if any lockdowns or border closures in effect.

Just want to guard against possibility of unexpected closure while away.

We're hoping to get to Tassie in a few weeks. Can't wait for some cold weather. It's a nice change from Brisbane where we only have to put on a light jumper to get through winter (except for the odd day when we need something warmer).

If we somehow get locked out of returning home we will choose to stay in Tassie longer rather than quarantine in a Brisbane hotel.
