That'd be an interesting play, since tenant can only authorise emergency work.

The tradesman would be reasonably expected to know which party their client is, though.

Ok the issue is here is that with shower seals a guarantee plays a major factor of doing the work.

Anyone can seal the shower but not anyone can guarantee and this is a major component of the fee charged. Now with the current shower sealer that did the work with no authorisation there is no guarantee (i would never want the tradie to set foot into any of my properties) hence i belief the job was never completed - hence i have no interest in paying

    About to call the PM

Just called the pm and she mentioned shes never heard of it and when she enquired with the tradie's hotline he was notsure who authorised it.

I called up and the guy just stuttered for a while and said we only do jobs once authorised but was not able to provide me who authorised it and when. Just mentioned to him to provide all evidence whether it was me or the pm. If it was anyone else invoice them and not me.

invoice is only $550 so no big deal but not happy with the practice of just taking jobs as they feel like

    Id say this ^^.

Contractor would have to organize with the tenant to make sure the shower tray was fully dry before actually completing the work, so Id say there would have been a few calls/texts between the tenant/tradie.

I wouldn't pay them and hope it solves the problem for you. Working in the waterproofing industry, I've seen that this method usually doesn't solve the leak long term.

I think your only getting half the story. If its a good job i think you should pay them, but at the level of the other quotes you were happy with. The man wanting to be paid has kids, bills mortgages as well.

The man should not think he can just go into the house and do a job as he wishes and expects to be paid

Sounds like the hard ass mums on random us sitcoms that just barge into a store and start working

Well weeks later and still no call back from the company to let me know who authorised

Seems as if head office authorised the works

and the poor employee (contracter) did the job

Was wondering how you went with this. Have you checked - Is the job done satisfactorily? (Regardless of whether they should have or not).

Have you paid it? Or arranged another?

just thought id give a heads up on what happened after

the company did pursue the debt in december
There explanation was they sent an sms (to the wrong number) and since we didnt object they did the job (umm wtf was my reaction)

anyway they decided to not pursue the invoice but no warranty was to apply

anyway to add to the story a month later the shower started leaking from the same spot and i got the original tradie to fix the seal (at the moment all good)

happy i didnt pay the original tradie
