You are such a 'bloke'. You don't 'get' jewellery, but happy to drop money on a 'functional' item. There is nothing to 'get' about jewellery - it's a bit like women don't 'get' the need for the high-end sports or prestige car, either.

And I reckon I can guarantee that a man's version of functional, and a women's version of functional, are likely to be very different………….

Surely, buying your wife a piece of jewellery, if that is what makes her happy, is worth the money? Some women don't want jewellery - that's fine - but I've gotta say that I've never met a diamond I didn't like.

I think you are in the best situation ever! Having to convince your other half to spend on herself is great. Even better that you both have the same mindset etc. I hope she doesn't feel guilty anymore and just enjoy it.

In regards to practical vs jewellery - @KayTea I get what @Ace in the Hole is saying. I would rather someone get me a practical gift. Something I can actually use is perfect for me. But that also means it has to be suited for the person and something that they would need.

Yeah, @Esh, something practical has it's place. But I can always buy myself some practical when I need it.

Sometimes it's nice just to given something 'nice - not because I need it, but because the person buying it for knows that I would like it and appreciate it. It was bought for no other reason than to make me happy - now that's being appreciated :D

Slightly off topic talking about nice gifts, its like I asked someone for a nice handbag, (because well... it looks nice and every woman owns a nice handbag, right?).... but in the end I would never use it and stick to my good old practical backpack (simply cause, I ride my pushbike partway to work each day and i'm not about to be transporting my stuff in something like that while riding)... the money would be wasted.

Possible the car i have been wanting to buy. I am changing my mind on that already though. Might spend some money on the shed at my PPOR or a new kitchen that i have been holding back on.

For the newbie, or the young person on small incomes; it's what you do with the saved dollars from the cappucino rationing that will make you rich.

Some folks have 2 or 3 per day, times 5, @ say; $4.5 each....$67.5 per week...call it $60 per week.

Dunno, but I'd guess considerably more than a regular car.

Yes I agree with you...every big
Purchase we have thought about making over the years we have calculated it and said "I'd rather buy a property!"

I only recently bought a pretty pricey European car because we made an excellent profit on a development. And last year got some fab diamond earrings and hubby got himself classic car all of which were researched and bargained to find the best value for money. Our friends would laugh at us for driving the same old car and never buying much

We have never been big spenders and only got these things now because we can afford it after many years of saving and developing!
