I have a Farang house guest at the moment who usually lives in Thailand and has been practising his condo-spruiking on us. What could possibly go wrong?

Dont worry, I have no desire to live there forever but a year could be nice. His Mrs can interpret for us and he reckons we would both get good English-speaking jobs there. Neither of us has a Uni degree.

Condos in Thailand are usually crap investments. Lots and lots of things that can and do go wrong.

However a year over there working or volunteering would be fantastic. If you're in a position to do it, go! :)

After that year you'll learn so many incredible things including why thai condos make such crap investments....

Please don’t buy it unless you go and see there first hand. Like others said many things could and “will” go wrong (FYI: coming from somewhere close by) having said that you could still go for a year without buying an investment!

@Angel so when's the local meetup so we can discuss all things expat & realty in Thailand?!!

We're interested in extended stays over there ourselves however from my research it would be better to lease if not intending to relocate indefinitely.

Apart from the financial implications, leasing offers far more flexibility for sort to mid term expats.

I had no intention of buying and you have all confirmed my thoughts. I think @Indifference we are almost neighbours. See you soon!

I have organised a few meet ups in bangkok, we should do another one plus a more formal course and structure it in a way that it could be tax deductible.
Please like my post if you would be interested.
