Family Allowance wasn't a lot. By early 90s it was about $10 pw per child. It was replaced in 1996 by a tax allowance which was somewhat more.

I don't know how FA was paid, whether it was paid directly if if it was a part of tax. I remember at one stage there was a box to be ticked on the tax return which might have given you a bigger refund.

Nope... you need to see the optometrist :p You’re looking at the light orange line which is Younger Gen X & older Gen Y

The 45-54 age which spans the youngest Boomers to the oldest Gen X’ers, is actually the 3rd highest as at 2016 on that graph.... only exceeded by 2 other categories containing Boomers....

The lesson for me in this graph is that I need to find myself an old granny and make her the head of my household :p.

In 1994 we were in our mid 30s. The older BBs, the light orange group you are referring to, are worth a lot more than the younger boomers. That is why the younger Boomers object to being classified the same as people ten to 15 years older than us. Are you the same age as me?

Any one over 45 is in the top 4 categories of that graph.... and unless you are over 75, then you are in the top 3!

I’m an older Gen X and we seem to be doing quite well by that graph. Top 3 well....

Nah .... youngest boomers are now 60 born in 1960. Anything younger is an X ... unless they've changed the goal posts yet again

Most goal posts refer to Boomers as being pre-1965, so 55+yrs now:

    1928-1945 Silent Generation / Builders
    1946-1964 Boomers
    1965-1979 Gen X
    1980-1994 Gen Y / Millenials
    1995-2009 Gen Z / Zoomers
    2010-now Gen Alpha

I used NOT to be a boomer, until they changed the goalposts to include me (born 1960). Now they've moved them again and it is 1964 cut off. I feel older now. :(

I'm a Boomer (Just), and Hubby is Gen X. He reckons he's a boomer by association.

They seem to move them every couple of years ... used to be Depression Survivors up until the start-ish of WW2 ... then boomers until around 1959 (post war) ... then X ... etc

I feel like being a Boomer is start to creep a bit close

I tend to think Gen Z will be the ones most defined by COVID.

If it last long enough they may have a similar ride to that of the Boomers, tough times followed by decades of wealth accumulation. Though likely with higher lows and lower highs, won’t be as dirt poor as the boomers were and won’t reach the level of wealth dominance that boomers are currently at.

Gen Y are more likely to have large amounts of wealth dominance but the generation will be split like never before. Those who had rich parents to go guarantee or give them cash handouts of those lucky enough to land in good jobs will be wealthier on average; as will the older portion of that generation add to that those who will inherit. The Australia of the future will be a lot poorer and a lot less equal but with pockets of extreme wealth. An exacerbation of what we see today.

Gen Z will be utterly destitute with no jobs, no income, most likely rental slaves for life.

The saving grace of this might be that the younger and poorer of those two generations can overpower X and the surviving boomers who will overwhelmingly support the unfair status quo.

    World domination.....:)

I am putting my chips on anyone who works hard towards their goals and takes action.
    Gen is irrelevant

...... if you understand cycles you will know there will always be opportunities knocking at your door just got to be prepared to act
