I was at a Budget Briefing this morning and they showed a slide stating the following:

    We have:
    • Tobacco/Alcohol excise tax to discourage smoking and drinking.
    • Consumption tax to discourage eating.
    • Income tax to discourage earning money which you need less of anyway if you are not smoking, drinking or eating.
    • Payroll tax to discourage people being employed.
    • Superannuation tax to discourage planning for the future.
    • And, if for the above reasons, you can't stand living here anymore - we gave a departure tax to discourage leaving.
They didn't advise the author's name but I did hear someone say that they thought it was Shaun Micallef.

I and most/all of the audience had a good laugh.

No luxury yacht tax though! The government is encouraging you to aim higher.

Note to self: employ yacht captain as a contractor.

Note to self: investigate how thoroughly customs inspects luxury yachts. This could be a lucrative opportunity.

    No pension until age 70.
Although no one will give you a job if you are over 50.

This does not apply to politicians.

    Who would have thought?......

Tax on Womens sanitary products to discourage women being sanitary.

Side note, I tend to think of men had periods, sanitary products would be tax free.... possibly even subsidised...

    * Mining tax to discourage the digging of holes

That's one less tax that now needs to be worried about, given the commodity glut coinciding with a sudden lack of demand at exactly the same time...
