Hi my names Scotty and i stumbled onto this site researching other peoples recommendations. Im glad i did, it seems like a safe and inforrmative place.

So heres a little about me; I'm 42 and struggled with debt most of my life, thats behind me now and ive saved almost 30k. Now I want to start investing in property with a goal of having a future income being generated. At the moment I'm in the military and have some generous super for the future and access to some unique home buyer benefits when i choose to acess them.

The more i read the more i realise i dont know. My first port of call will be to see a financial adviser and work out exactly how much i can afford and the best way to go about it all.
I hope to make my first purchase this year.

Im enjoying the ride so far and I'm keen to learn as much as i can so i don't make too many mistakes early on.o_O

Also looking forward to using this site and getting to know you all

    Cheers :)

Welcome Scott. Watch out for some of those "financial advisors". Try a mortgage broker first.

Lot's of great real-world financial advice from the many people here. Also try to get to a meet up.

    Networking & Meetups

@Kinnon Bell might know if any meetups occur up in FNQ.

Welcome @ScottyOfAus . Good on ya for saving up and overcoming your debt.

Also agree with @wombat777 - try to come along to one of the meetups. It's a great to get tips and see how you can apply other people's journeys into your plan.

    Thanks for the advice @wombat777 & @Zoolander.
Although i live in Cairns I'm away over in Darwin working until the first week of April. Ill be spending some time in perth after that, then i might even get to Sydney and Melbourne as well.

Im definerly open to a meetup. Is it organised via the forums or the meetup app?

Shame Knx isn't a bit closer to Darwin or I'd join you.

Welcome @ScottyOfAus. Nice place to have discovered.

Well done on transitioning from spender to saver. Next step is investor and you'll learn heaps hanging around, reading and asking questions so go nuts!
