We've started harvesting tomatoes while they're green since we've got a fruit fly problem now. Worst we've every seen! Nothing working on again them yet and I don't want to start spraying chemicals Need to try some more organic options first.

Our first capsicums are nearly ready too :)

Here's a plate of TommyToes, Mizarno, Yellow Pear and Bumblebee. With obligatory beans.

QLD, bloody fruit flies are always terrible here.

A couple of options. Expensive one is non toxic separate traps for males and females. But what the wife mostly did was buy some vege net on special (stictching in one area not perfect) and makes different size bags with ties that she puts over the tomatoes or bunches of tomatoes. Problem solved.

The python’s having another rest. It’s curled up also because the peewees are harassing it. Look closely in the middle and you will see it’s eye checking me out. Maybe sees me as another potential meal:eek::

Peta the Carpet Python seems to have decided our heavily treed front garden is her home now. Went to put some scraps in the compost bin and pick a few chilies growing under the bin but decided against it:eek::

Fruit fly larvae may have been located in Tassie, going to have a significant impact on our economy if they are here and establish. Apparently our winters should be cold enough that even if present they shouldn't survive the winter.

Tomatillos. Used for making Mexican Salsa Verde (though the one they use at a ubiquitous Mexican fast food chain is not the same one).

Salsa verde is used in tacos and other foods; also to make chilaquiles (salsa, corn chips, jalapeños, shredded chicken, eggs).

Although they are also known as green tomatoes, they are more closely related to gooseberries. They have a tart taste, a bit similar to granny smith apples.

    Have been enjoying this thread!

I’ve got a small yard so have bits n pieces planted all over the place, plus whatever comes up out of compost I usually just let it grow!

Here’s my leb eggplants, I’ve literally got bucket loads off 4 plants, all Neighbour’s have been happy and even frozen a heap. This photo is probably the last of them as they, and the plant, started to turn yellow

Below that is my row of ballerina apples, I left two Belaros on this year, and quite a few crab apples. Didn’t let them fully fruit as I’m trying grow them up ASAP as sun screen.

    Really enjoyed this thread
Keep it up with the posts
Was wondering if anyone had a supplier of bare root fruit trees that would deliver to Sydney, I have purchased from heritage fruit trees which were reliable and have purchased many fruit trees from Daley’s and also very happy with them
I really want some cherry, European plum varieties and maybe a pluot
    Thanks in advance

I saved the biggest bulbs and planted them for this year’s crop. However the latest crop had smaller bulbs than last year (top photo). I believe conditions were the same - e.g. manure and compost.

Any ideas why the size difference?

My local Green Gold nursery appears to buy a lot of fruti trees through Flemings. Could you contact them and see if they deliver to a nursery near you. They appear to have pluots Plums | Fleming's (I have been known to travel to Melbourne for spcific trees that I want...).

@Joynz , love the garlic! No vampires near you!

Did you rotate or use the same spot? Garlic is antibiotic agent. So if you plant it in the same spot over and over again it kills the bacteria in soil. It takes at least 12 months for soil to fully “reset” once garlic is planted. So rotate the spot and large bulbs should stay large.

My grandma used to alway plant garlic at least 2 meters away from prior spot and always got good bulbs.

That’s if you do organic. Otherwise nuke it with fertiliser I guess.

I have placed orders with diggers, yalca fruit trees and Daley's. Never had a problem with any of them.

Plum and cherry (sweet and sour) are on my list. Wife thinks we have no more room.

These just keep coming and coming. Far more salsa verde than we can ever use. I've actually sold a couple of kilos in the Mexican community.

The chilaquiles are fantastic. I'm addicted. Our daughters make it for their friends, and they have became very popular. (Both the chilaquiles and my daughters).
