The Tesla powerwall is less than 10k now with inverter.

If they are remote, I would do it, if they have the grid, probably not at this stage, this is a very rare event and combo of events.

They are in the hills of Adelaide and have lived there for more than 10 years. They have found power is not that reliable in the area.

The blackout was great, uncle is over from interstate with his new wife - sat around my parents place chatting away in by candle light. Cooked up some food on the BBQ, sitting by the outdoor heaters and boiled up water on the gas stove for some tea.

Also I made great travel time after work - didn't get a single red light :D

The following day from what I read on my facebook was that most spent the night doing similar, spending it with family and friends back to basics - sitting around actually talking to people.

In that case, I would look at the powerwall if they want a neat package, they are about 7kw, which should be enough to run lights, fridge, cook etc overnight, combined with say 5kw of panels, basically should be very few times you need to draw anything from the grid.

    It wasn't fun for me.
I happened to be in Adelaide for work the last two days when it happened. Climbing the stairs to my room (no lift), sit in the dark in the hotel room, thought I'd have a hot shower and rest - but no hot water.
Thought I'd get a taxi out to CBD for some food - the sight of traffic isn't promising. Told no restaurants are open anyway as they couldn't cook .
So thought I might ask about petro station nearby so I could get maybe instant noodles? That'll be 20min walk each way in high heels in the pitch dark windy wet road - and where are you getting hot water for the instant noodles the hotel staff asked me .

Fine, I'll go upstairs to your hotel restaurant and get a bite - that's closed too sorry.

but.... They gathered all the sandwiches muffins chips nuts crackers and cheese and cornflakes on a table for guests to share - on another table juice and alcohol. At least they tried

We live less than 15kms from the Brisbane CBD as the crow flys.

Just over 2 years ago, we lost grid power 3 times in a fortnight - no server, no security, had to open garages manually, had to open front gate manually, ...

Installed batteries connected to second solar array. Never had a power problem since - 100% power reliability, even though our street has lost power a number of times.

We installed batteries for power reliability reasons, not cost/benefit reasons. Having said that, we now export more power to the grid from our first array and we get 50c per kWh. So, even though we spent more money, the two arrays will be paid off sooner than the single array would have been.

Obviously a lot of people in SA likes the idea of everything being renewable. Otherwise why would Jay make such statements? I thought SA residents are paying high enough power.

I hope SA gets a new govt. Weatherill and his treasurer have really screwed the state with their inept energy policy.

Yea it'll happen. Marshall has a much better plan for us. And LNP philosophy in general improves economies - just look at Tas go.

Agree, although I think LNP didn't managed to show how bad Weatherill's energy policies are, unfortunately. Would be great to see Weatherill out and Dan Andrews out in VIC next.
