I think he's asking about the implication you can tell an Asian who lives in Australia and is a resident from one who is from overseas and isn't , ought it's always possible I'm misunderstanding that comment .

If that's what you think you can do , I'm also curious how you do it .

Outside the context of real estate it's easy to tell, but I don't think going into this is appropriate for this forum. Within the context of real estate the only way I can think of is perhaps if they cut into line while registering at an auction. Here and other first world countries like Hong Kong and Taiwan cutting into line is seen a a very rude gesture. In mainland China it's very much the norm. Go to Hong Kong Disney Land and you'll see what I mean. The locals stand out like a sore thumb against the mainlanders.

Oops hope nothing controversial here. I'm Asian and I can quite easily tell. The easiest way to know is talking to them and the accent and dressing give them away.

And it's interesting to know that when my Asian friend attended an auction yesterday and when it passed in, the agent approached my friend directly (he didn't place any bid) to make an offer that match the Reserve price but my friend declined. My friend thought the agent went to him probably thinking he's willing to pay. No, my friend is born here and he knows the market.

A lot happens in 6 weeks....since my first post on this thread...

    1. APRA has tighten the screws...I remember saying to people that the Sydney market will start cooling as investors have trouble getting large loans.

    2. As per last time...money is flowing from Sydney to Brissie

    3. Now....will the 2018-2019...I await....like restless great white who has not eaten for months....

From what I reading ...Sydney is now cooling....the question is how quickly no when.....

Yea. I think the slowing in syd has started, but it's very gradual. I don't think there will be large and sudden falls, probably more of the slow and gradual Slowing. Its economy is still strong and that should prevent sharp falls.

So funny. My current Airbnb guests are from HK and they complain about all the mainlanders in HK. Property prices have quadrupled in HK since 2003 (believe its due to all the mainlanders coming in) and my Airbnb guests tell me families live in spaces 28sqm and it costs millions for that priviledge.

My guests tell me its too expensive to move into another apartment so they dont.
Point is, Asians discriminate against other Asians like Aussies discriminate against other Aussies (ohhh... You're from Mt. Druitt?)

    Agents are so predictable:

    Market rising:
To sellers: sell now while market is hot
To buyers: buy now before it gets too expensive

    Market falling:
To sellers: sell now while you can
To buyers: buy now while it's cheap

Same old dung being flung around.

Being asian I find it easy to spot a mainlander

    1. The wife has multiple brand name items (lv, Prada, etc). They are also overdressed compared to everyone else

    2. It's 25-30 degrees and they dress like its the middle of winter so they can off their brand name scarf and jacket

    3. They talk annoyingly loud in mandarin

    4. They hock and spit without a care in the world

    5. They only have 1 kid and that kid usually an absolute spoilt brat. You watch them run around and demolish everything and parents don't say a word

    6. They don't understand the concept of personal space
