Thanks for all the info ... quite inspired by the thread!

Up until now I have only done moonlighting (2nd job) doing the same thing as the IT day job. Now looking into something of hobby/business hustle.

An ideal scenario is where you side thing is a piece of passion and becomes your plan A in the end

Wife is a yoga & well-being teacher (has certificate) - which is hobby she does for charity on a donation basis on weekends. I have tried to convince her to do as side hustle but not interested - due all the headaches like insurance, accounting etc.

I am looking into Management rights kind of business and trying to learn how much work is involved and if can run partially managed etc. If there is flexibility then I could try that as a side business. Has anyone done this?

My partner was running a dwindling business but getting a bit sick of it after 30 years. They have turned a bit of a dud rental into an Airbnb that is doing very good numbers after 8 months. Second property should launch next month and fully quit the old business before winter.

My one-person software business started 31 years ago as a little sideline to my home extension plan drawing business. At the time my bank manager asked me how much I expected it to make, to which I replied £2-3,000 a year (I was in the UK then). As another post above, things took off. I went through a very ragged time when I was trying to split my time between the two activities, then bit the bullet and gave up plan drawing. Since beginning the sales total is in seven digits, something I never could have anticipated.

Why my (modest) success? Two things: Firstly I'm not brilliant at anything but am ok at most things that go with my business, and, secondly, I'm fortunate to be selling niche products that can command a relatively high price. Contrast with mass-market software where your competition may be free.

Dud rental, but in a great location for short-term stays i.e AirBnB?

Or doing well now due to tight demand?
